I have a couple idea's but honestly I am not sure yet.

You could plane down the sides, fill and sand it, then put some MechWarrior decals around the edge. Or you could apply some type of vinyl wrap as well that would match the MechWarrior theme (brushed aluminum, hammered metal, diamond plate, etc.). Or just even paint it. I'm sure those are probably some of the same ideas you mentioned thumb.gif

Will you put a glass top on it to protect the graphics? Would keep wear off your designs - pretty much last forever.

The vinyl will be laminated with the same stuff used on car wraps, its pretty tough.

I was just thinking in my experience with my current desk. I don't necessarily abuse it, but writing on a glass surface is awesome - plus I've taken Exacto blades to it and have done PC work on it. Wipes away with some Windex smile.gif . I know some vinyls allow you to clear coat it, so that might be an option too to give it that little extra bit.

Ok I am getting alot of pm's for a update so here is what I have so for in Sketchup (I switched from free CAD due to the huge amount of models available in sketchup) I will be using either a bench hinge or piano hinge (I am open to suggestions) The model is missing several components at the moment, I couldnt find the right fittings to go between the vid cards and I have no idea how to make tubing yet (still new with digital design stuff) I am using 7970's with EK blocks but that could change depending on parts sourcing ect... I am going to do the entire desk and then make the cad file available to anyone who wants it. The plan is to run a long loop to the radiator with enough flex for it to open or create a joint with 2 off valves and a quick disconnect in between. I am open to idea's for alternate whats to setup the WC loop or any suggestions in general, I want this to be as awesome as possible. I am also going to try to get sponsors for the next stage of the build so hopefully I can take this build up another notch!

Feel free to post questions and critiques and thanks for all of the response guys!

OMMFG!!!! Dude, this looks awesome! So far, I have been extremely impresed by this build. Anyone can say they built a custom case for there computer, (well maybe not anyone) but who can say they completly filled a room with a desk for their computing with the computer built into the desk? Tell me who? dieseldog49, that's who!!!

Now, on to suggestions.

I would go with the piano hinge. Should be stronger, just in case. Also, if your going to go this far, how about try your hand at a chilled watercooling loop? really drop those cpu/gpu temps and open that system up to some extreme overclocking? Just a thought.

Back to the desk:

It looks like this is going to be a very impressive piece of work when you get done, dieseldog49. I can't wait to see some more!!!

r u not worried about all that extra weight on the GPUs from being upside down? it seems to me like this would be a lot of stress on the socket

EDIT: it is looking epic though thumb.gif
