Corsair Dominator RAM, what's the deal with it? (Image included)

Hi, I've been looking through RAM for my upcoming upgrade and I keep seeing everywhere that Corsair Dominator RAM is usually more expensive than most other brands that I see and I was wondering if there was any reasoning behind this i.e. does Dominator memory perform particularly well?

I was looking into pricing on the Dominator memory and found these three kits, each offering 8GB (2x 4GB) but all with different pricings:

360

As you see here (ignoring the one in the middle) they are identical apart from 'CAS Latency', should I aim to get RAM with higher or lower values? I tried googling what it is however it was a bit in-depth for me.

If anyone could give me advice on whether Dominator RAM is worth the price OR recommend better RAM I'll be very grateful.

Thanks as always.

The lower values are better for performance however you are not going to see any difference in every day use between those kits.

You're paying for their incredible tech support and for some, aesthetics. RMA through corsair is the quickest and easiest I've ever dealt with. They generally overclock well and I've never had a kit that I couldn't tighten timings up on significantly.

Ah ok, I haven't really dealt with Corsair before but apparently their customer service is legendary, one of the reasons why I'm going with a H100 over a low-end water-cooling setup biggrin.gif

Also I'm guessing the fans you can buy to accompany the Dominator RAM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835704001) are purely for aesthetic purposes? I can't imagine RAM could generate too much heat...

For latency, the lower the better.

You can see tighten timings on the middle kit, but it is a 4gb kit not a 8gb one. The last one is the one to get.
