Quad Core Battle : Intel Yorkfield vs AMD Altair - Page 4

We still dont know how the k8l will perform it might be just as good or better. Lets hope that intel does not deliver a crushing blow to AMD. If they do then we will loose the much needed competition created by having two manufacturers of CPUs.
QFT!

I sure as hell woulnd't like to see that either. If it wasn't for AMD, we wouldn't have CONROE. Except Intel is still the reiging king of all Core Logics (Chipsets for you fellas).

Carbon nanotubes probably will be measured in atomic units. Although I'm not sure how far away it is from a nanometer...

The thing I notice with AMD is that they are making really low-power CPUs. People will still buy AMD's. Yorkfield might end up being $1500, where the Altair could only be $600. I am really hoping AMD will come up with something. Kinda like I want Sony to somehow save themselves.

Hearsay, hearsay. We'll wait and see who's holding back, waiting to pull out the ace of spades when it matters.

Intels Core Duo was suppose to crush AMD, so look in the stock prices in the newspaper and see who's is going up and who's going down. Experts appear to be surprised.

Quality is a good thing, as long as the price tag remains viable for us normal folk.

wild guess - they're measured in nanometers

i dont see why you would think that AMD's quad core will be 2.5x cheaper than intel's. if anything intel's will be cheaper because they will have had some form of quad core being manufactured for longer

it seems as if intel was the one holding back - a few months ago it looked like AMD was going to decisively pull ahead of intel in terms of market share. then boom - conroe - quad cores way before amd - 45nm before or as amd hits 65 - the ace is just beginning to be pulled out

you really cant expect a new proc core to affect stock prices so soon. it is only beginning to move from the enthusiast market - a few weeks ago there were no core2 OEM pc's. not to mention that intel's business is so massive that its cpu market has a muted effect on stock prices.

Wow that seems to be in Intel's favor right now... We'll have to see benchmarks to judge though!

I remember a couple of years ago when AMD was growing and everyone was afraid Intel might lose eventually... the tides will turn again I'm sure

Yup, and by "they" you're referring to the professors at my college.

I doubt it, I think everyone works in this yellow room in the basement of the ECE building. Or in this other research building which has rumored to be protected by armed guards (I have no idea if that's true).

AMD isn't letting go of this for any less than $1200, they simply don't have the manufacturing capability and the economy to back up such a low price. Why do you think their FX's are so expensive? Yeah, thats right, they don't have what Intel has (Gigantic size and gigantic economy).
