[Build Log] NZXT Switch 810: Water Cooling Redo

Thread Starter
I plan to keep all of the internal components and throw in some water cooling goodness.

Parts:

  • ASUS Crosshair V Formula
  • AMD 1090T
  • 16GB DDR3 1600 Kingston HyperX
  • 2 X MSI GTX 470 Twin Frozr iis
  • OCZ Z-Series 1000W 80+ Gold (non-modular) RMA Being replaced with: OCZ-ZX1000W
  • NZXT Switch 810 White

Water cooling parts:

  • 2 X Danger Den DD-GTX470s
  • 6 X Bitspower -TRUE SILVER- G1/4 Straight Compression Fitting for 3/8IN ID 1/2IN OD out of stock frown.gif
  • 2 X Bitspower -TRUE SILVER- G1/4 Threaded Stop Fitting
  • Swiftech APOGEE HD Limited Edition Real 24K Gold
  • Swiftech APOGEE HD Limited Edition Real 24K Gold AMD Mounting
  • Swiftech MCP655
  • Swiftech MCRES-MICRO REV2 [On order] Shipping ETA 03/21/12
  • 5 X Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1850 RPM [On Order] Changed to 5 X Gelid Wing 140mms
  • Primochill Primoflex Pro LRT Clear 1/2IN ID 3/4IN OD Tubing (10 Feet)
  • Black Ice GTX 280mm
  • Black Ice GTX 420mm
  • 5 X bitspower 140mm to 120mm adaptors

I was thinking of going with Black Ice radiators, but if someone can recommend something else let me know.
Also for radiator fans I am planning on going with GELID WING 14s or Silverstone Air Penetrator AP141s, although from what I am reading it might be better to get Gentle Typhoons with an adaptor.

*EDIT* I am probably going to go with Gentle Typhoon 1850 RPM with Bitspower 120-140mm adaptors and maybe the Black Ice stealths?

So 2/4 of my bitspower silver plated stop fittings came in... in this huge box. Nothing else was inside laughingsmiley.gif

I already opened these before, but here are some pictures of the full cover blocks I'll be using on my 470s

*EDIT*
I already knew this when I ordered them, but as a quick update my GT fans are going to be delayed possibly up to April 4th due to a backorder =/

I also took off the top 5.25" bay bracket and removed the bottom hard drive cage/sled.

While I am waiting for the rest of my water cooling parts to arrive, I decided to move from my old case to the new one biggrin.gif

Unfortunately it has been a while since I've did the wiring on my case... and I've forgotten how much of a pain non-modular power supplies are D:

A new unlisted addition has arrived, in the spirit of change I have decided to go for a mechanical keyboard as my old keyboard as getting a bit mushy to type on. I'll update this post with pictures when I get the chance, mechanical feels a lot nicer to type on smile.gif, now I just have to get used to typing on a standard layout versus the ergonomic split keyboard layout :S

In other news, most of my fittings are on their way, the radiators are currently being inspected at customs and will hopefully arrive soon biggrin.gif. Badish/Goodish news is that I am sending my power supply in for an RMA in a couple days due to the coil noise it is making, nothing wrong with the unit, it would just defeat the purpose of my endeavour into water cooling completely. (Complete silence is the goal) So I'll be without a computer to play with for a couple weeks and will have to rely on the old Toshiba NB100 as my "spare" power supply is now in use.

So my power supply is still out on RMA and I am using the good old Toshiba NB100 with Ubuntu. Some good news is that they're going to replace my power supply OCZZ1000 with the modular OCZ-ZX1000W, my only concern is that this will not solve the problem which I had originally sent the power supply in for in the first place (whining noise), but only time will show how this will work out).

Anyways, the radiators and fittings came in, I've been toying with mounting options and to am going to try to stick with my "no case modding" policy and this is what I've come up with:

I was originally going to have the 240 radiator on the bottom, but it won't fit without cutting out the front fan mount, this seems to work and I get to use both hdd cages
400

Mounting the 420 radiator on the top was not so bad, although my original plan of putting the fittings to the back of the case does not really work
400

as shown here... with the fittings it will be right up against the I/O shield area.
700

So I am going to try having them face the front of the case, and it seems there is enough room to have some 90 degree fittings there. If worse comes to worse I'll have to go out and buy a dremel and forget my "no case modding" policy frown.gif *EDIT* Or see how well the 90 degree fittings work when it is facing the back.
700

Oh and a new addition, Steel Series 7G biggrin.gif. Please forgive my messy desk >_>;

Looks good! thumb.gif
I'll be watching this build as I'm considering the same 420 rad except I've got an I7 cpu with Sabertooth x58.
I'm leaning toward cutting out the plate in the drive bay. Too bad they didn't make it removable. Oh well might be time to get the jigsaw out! I seen a vid on youtube showing the 810 at the CES Show and they had what looked like 60mm in there and said a 60mm rad would fit. Seems there should be a mfg standard set for the mounting specs for the rads and cases. Would be nice, but what fun would that be...lol.

How is the clearance with your board?

Thanks for the build posts, keep 'em coming.
