We don't want Milli Vanilli in the hood of the car, right?

Bad analogy, because lip syncing implies you can't sing - electric cars can apparently perform on that point without even the need for noise.

While I can understand the sound and feeling being part of the experience, I'm surprised that people would stone wall a new technology just because it is different from their own paradigm of performance. To me - that is like saying you will never operate a machine that doesn't have a cast iron oven and a steam engine in it, because without the pffffffft of steam pistons, you just don't feel like you have any power.

@ Stealth -

I wasn't addressing the power - I was just surprised that people are so caught up on the sound and not the performance.

Actually, a lot of artist who can sing still lip synch at concerts or shows but that's a whole other story. Anyways I still think you are missing the point. Why do people buy Ferrraris and Porsches? Is it partly due to the sound of the v12 spinning at 8k rpm, with all the exhaust butterflies open? I think so. When you have to pipe that sound it sort of destroys that aspect no? It makes it fake, and people will hate it. The/car makers will have to change peoples perceptions and opinions on this.

The analogy works fine. Either way, the point still stands.

It's not new technology in the slightest, electric cars have been around for decades. Electric cars are, and have always been, gimmicks. The batteries are expensive, heavy, inefficient, and terrible for the environment. With new battery tech, my opinion might change, but as it stands now, I see no positive to them.

Super cars no longer use cast blocks, (heck $30k camaros/firebirds have been using aluminum blocks since the late 90's) they are all aluminum, and much lighter than current battery tech in electric cars

The materials used to manufacture electric cars use vast quantities of heavy metals which can't be recycled and leech into the soil when dumped in landfill. Also, afaik electric motors need to be replaced about every 5 years and since quite a lot of the materials can't be recycled from previous motors, more emissions and resources are used to manufacture the replacement cells etc.
Apart from the fact that all electric cars do is trade carbon emissions from the tailpipe to carbon emissions from power generators. Of which, in most countries in the world, coal is the primary source of electricity. So ultimately i would rather stick to my eco friendly petrol engine than buy into the load of bs that is electric cars.
Not to mention a range of ~240 miles is hardly impressive and the top speed of electric cars still trails comparable petrol engine vehicles. Ultimately, if I have to recharge my car about every 4 days just to get to work and back without any detours or secondary trips/uses, the car isn't worth my time and money. My petrol engine car goes 1.5 weeks before needing a refill and that includes any trips to the store, cruising down the highway every Sunday and driving around during the week doing odds and ends.

OMG yes this! I'm not the only person in the world that can see the whole picture! thumb.gif Repped for this post.

Wait what? I'm not even sure what my post has anything to do with a ricer or a four cylinder.

I enjoy the sound of a tuned engine, and I want to be able to hear it. Ever driven a performance vehicle? Err Scratch that, ever heard a performance vehicle? The sound of a stock Audi S4, with a full aftermarket exhaust system is just music to my ears. A stock S4 falls far behind the other performance vehicles, not the point though. tongue.gif

How you even concluded I was talking about ricers is beyond me.

if its a fast car, it still needs to be aerodynamic at speeds and needs to handle well. exotic super sport styling keeps a car on the ground at speed, if this can go fast, its justified.

Indeed, cars don't look like that because its sexy, they look like that because they need too, which makes them sexy.

I see no point ... It is still a "Car" so as long as it is still a "car" insurance will eat your money alive for the style and speed of the vehicle... sooooo screw that... and again *Hops in Delorian*
