Need a recommendation on a silent PSU - Page 2

Look at the new Seasonic Platinum Series (800 or 1000 watt) or the XFX Pro series (which is a rebranded Seasonic platinum under the hood) These are new PSU's that just came out around January 2012.

They have a switch on them so you can run them in "hybrid mode" or normal mode. In "hybrid mode" hey are completely silent and run with their fan OFF until you hit a certain power load thresh hold

I have the Seasonic 1000 and its silent because the fan never kicks on. When I first installed it I had to put it in normal mode to make sure it was even working.

Look up reviews for them to get more specifics.

Oh I should have mentioned - It may be slightly more than you wanted to spend. Around $60-70 more :-/ But maybe the silence and the power efficiency would be worth it to you. They are one of the few platinum rated power supplies out there.

the kingwin LZP series are very quiet, even under max load (silentpc reviewed the 1000w model @ 25dba.) it also compared favourably in noise against the seasonic platinum in cmaris' testing, however i dont know how accurate his testing is
