Need help overclocking my Phenom II X4 965BE

Thread Starter
Hello.

I've been trying to overclock my processor now. I have a few problems, I can't get past 3.7GHZ. It gave me a BSOD in prime95 with 3.8GHZ. My temperatures weren't even going high when using prime, max 51C. I had 1.425Vcore. I can't lower it because my motherboard won't let me and it seems kinda high to me.
My specs are:
MB: MSI K9N2 SLI Platinum
Ram: Kingston HyperX DDR2 800mhz
GPU: Asus GTX560 Ti DirectCU II
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965BE C3
PSU: Corsair CX500
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Contac 29BP

I might need more voltages, dunno. My friend has Phenom 955BE at 4.2ghz with 1.450vcore so I'm a bit confused...
Just ask me if you need more details and thanks for the help!

Welcome !

These Phenom II OC links should help:

Overclocking is a journey of exploration filled with much frustration. It is not a destination. wink.gif

Not all chips overclock the same, 4.2ghz @ 1.45v is pretty impresive for a 955 [but is it stable?].. when I had my 965 it required 1.55v @ 4.2GHZ

but anyway sounds like you need more vcore to stabilize, try bumping up the voltage in small increments then test for stability, you should be safe up to 1.55v, just try to stay under 60 degrees while stress testing

I would also recommend this. Give small voltage bump and see if its stable. Tell your friend he has a very good 965, a lot of chips require over 1.5 volts to get to 4.2 thumb.gif

i got my 965 BE 3952mhz with 1.46 or it was 1.47. i did it at 19multiplier x 208fsb. ran stable on prime for 4 or so hours . I changed the HT thing that is at 2000 normal to 2400 . I'm running a x6 now so i don't have all the settings. pulling it off top of my heads. i have 4 sticks of ram so you can get over 3.8 with 4 sticks. I say pump up the power on that. you can get higher. I'm new to OC ing tho.
