2500k Overclocked and 6990 Overclocked what sort of powersupply do i need??? - Page 4

Ideally 750, but if the price difference is enough you could settle for a decent 700w. The key everyone is missing is yeah it may be a little on the "safe" side but you will only draw what you will need and you are better to be over than under. I have a 650w and sometimes wish I had a bit more because if I ever want to add another 480 I can't without upgrading something else.

My set up wit the 20% GPU/CPU OC can draw just over 500w that leaves me a little under a hundred to play with and I wouldn't really want to cut it any closer.

Consider that the ax750 and ax 850 are approximately 12 dollars apart and those are the best power supplies for that power range so thats my suggestion but you could go cheaper by going with non-modular or a lower efficiency rating

OP is sincerely asking for help. That involves his money to get a quality PSU. Recommending lower wattage PSU by AMD for 6990 is not going to do OP any favors either. Who is going to cover OP lost should the PSU fail and takes other components along?

6990 has 2 BIOS.

Stock BIOS; 830/1250 MHz
AUSUM BIOS; 880/1250 MHz

Playing with Power Tune +20% is another story. Start overclocking is another one.

He has a 2500K Just factoring the difference between Core i7 920 OC vs 2500K OC you save like 120W under load.

I have the same setup and have a 750W psu.

But I don't think you'll have any problems with your power supply. AMD does recommend a 750W psu as minimum for a 6990 system though.

You've got an HX620 (as you already stated). It'll EASILY handle your planned system. I've ran GTX580 SLI off my sig rig PSU. Which draws a good bit more than a single 6990 will. And this was with 1.50v on my 2500k, and 1.20v on both of the 580's (that's a LOT for a 580).

Try your current unit out. It won't harm anything. If you overload it, it'll simply shut off. But I'll bet on it, that you won't have a single issue. Anyone claiming you need to go blow money on a new PSU, they must just like spending money for the fact of spending money....or they haven't had a power hungry system on a smaller unit before.

A 6990 doesn't draw anywhere NEAR as much as 2x 6970s, simply because of the fact that its a single card instead of 2 cards. Yes, AMD recommends 750w, but they assume its a junk no name brand. You've got a quality 620w unit, which is considerably more powerful than a junk 750w.
