I have 4 of the female heads and 4 of the male heads as im planning to make my own extensions of different lengths, however the female ones on the left of the pic came with the pins you can see at the bottom. From looking at the female socket on the motherboard it seems to have little pins without holes in them like the ones I have now. So to me it seems the female heads came with the female pins. What are the male pins that I need?

Just for explanation: you put the male pins in the female housing (socket), and the female pins in the male housing (plug).

Yes, of course, buy it. As you can see from the link above Molex makes these crimp pins for AWG16 all the way to AWG28. So you can do very long PCIe 8-pin cables, but also very short fan cables, as you wish.

If you've bought 0.75mm2 wire, you should buy the crimps for 18AWG. That's also on the website you linked http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/crimp-terminals/1729140P/

Now your next issue is whether to crimp those with long nose pliers or get the proper tool from MDPC smile.gif

Those would be perfect if the minimum quantity wasnt so large tongue.gif
I should only need 24 of them if i dont screw some up. I do believe there is a crimper in my house somewhere.

You could email Graeme at Kustom PCs. Ask him if he has a datasheet or specs for these: http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1996.html

Crimping tools aren't universal though. It's normally the interchangeable part that does the bite which is expensive.

No i have the square end females which oddly came with the female 6 pin pci-e connectors so they should be the right parts - square to square smile.gif
