Microstuttering, if you are worried, is more problematic with low-midrange cards. If you want 590 performance in a single card, however, you should get the HD 7970 which performs almost equally and is an amazing overclocker.

I have to agree with this, and I own two 580's...
The 580's are over a year old and still have that "enthusiast/top end" graphics card price close to that of a 7970 (which owns a 580 in pretty much every game), has lower power consumption and overclocks better...

I just don't think right now is a good time to purchase a 580, and will recommend waiting a few more months for Keplar if you an nVidia fan...
What games and resolution do you play at? Only Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2 (DX11 and High Res. Texture Pack) came close to my VRAM limit(1.5GB) and still never notice any slow downs... and I play at 1080p...

I use between 1.6gb and 1.8 gb of vram in BF3 on ultra. And no, I dont believe you should have to lower settings for that kind of money. Thats why I say one 3gb card outperforms lower cards. 1.6gb to 1.8gb of vram used is more than 1.5gb on the lower model 580's, and 1.2 gb on the lower model 570's. Or you could spend a tad less and go for the 2.5gb 570 models which are still a little bit close to the 3gb 580's in price.

Also, I love these reviews that try to compare 1.5 to 3gb and people in general saying its not needed, yet these reviews are only comparing average fps. I could've showed you some decent average fps readings from my 1.2gb 570 (single and sli) that would have looked pretty legit. But you don't see the vram usage in those numbers do you? You cant see the ridiculous points of frame drops or stutter in those numbers can you? Maybe include charts or numbers from gpu-z's log of min/max readings so you can see just how close to the limit you are. That would make those numbers a bit more credible than they are.

honestly how can one recommend a gtx580 3gb card over a 7970? Already while overclocked the 7970 is about the same as a gtx590 / 6990 and will only get better with time.

Also to anyone wondering I get 10.5k in 3dmark 11, if you want really good bang for your buck pick up two used gtx470's. Water cool them and overclock them like crazy, for around $350 total bucks they can't be beat.

We go though this everytime new hardware comes out on this fourm, just because a new one is better dose not change the fact that the old one still work's great!
I still have a SLI 460 set up and it whomps all kinds of game's at great settings(BF3 plays great!)

Anyone have any faint idea when Kepler is coming out? It says Q1 2012 but that's kind of vague... I might just get the new NVIDIA cards if that's the case... waiting is the hardest part. ***.
