A shopping list for supplies to boost 3G signal, also some questions.

We live out in the country, it basically a dead zone so we have a unlimited 3G internet plan via BroadbandQWirless, who uses Sprints 3G network, same as our phones. They sent us a little Omani-Directional antenna, along with a modem, ect. It gets the equivalent of about two bars on our cell phones, which gives us a total speed of around 20-30KB/s. We need a better signal, so I was looking into a directional antenna to help boost the signal. I don't know a lot about networking and such, so if you guys who know a bit more than me could give me some info on these products, it would be great!

First off, the antenna:

Wilson Directional Antenna

People give this a great rating, and since we know where the tower is we could point it right at it and hopefully give us a boost! Do any of you have any experience with this antenna?

Next up, the 100ft cord needed to reach the modem:

Wilson Electronics 100-Foot Ultra Low Loss Coax Cable

How much signal loss would we experience with a 100ft cord? Is there a better cord we could get?

And second off, we will need an adapter to be able to connect to the modem. The modem came with a tiny coax cable, with what looks like a male connecter end, but the cord above has both male connecters, and so I found this Female to Female FME adapter. (Or so I think it's called, I apologize if I don't know all of the networking guru knowledge. redface.gif )

Wilson Female To FME Female Connector

Also if we wanted to hook it up to this to boost the entire signal in our house, would all the devices be compatible?

Wireless Extenders zBoost Dual-Band Cell Phone Signal Booster

Did a quick MS Paint reference to how it would all be set up. It's a very simple picture haha.

Three floors including the basement (My room). I'm unaware of the Sq ft. of the house, but it's a big house.

All your feedback is appreciated! Thanks! thumb.gif

Depends on how far the Cell Tower is.
Do you get better signal with the dongle outside your house.
If you use like a phone would you get better signal since you could tether with that?

The tower is a couple miles away from our house. I suck at guessing distance so I may be wrong.

Never put it outside our house, the cord is like 6ft, and it's an "indoor" antenna. rolleyes.gif

What do you mean?
