That is a good idea. Maybe someone can lend me one.
I'm just hoping that since only the psu was hot and smelly and there are no heated/burnt components on the top or bottom of the motherboard that the motherboard is safe.

takes less then 1000v ESD to kill electronics.
to feel a static shock its 3000 v
10 mA hurt a modo 100mA is enuff to make your arm stick to shock 1000Ma is enuff to make a heart stop
so even if you dont feel the static discharge its enuff to hurt a electronic part.

lets just hope the ground to mass did its job and saved the day.

Oh Man. Sorry to hear about your fried PSU and possible cooked mobo and processor. I know that sometimes we get so excited when we get new hardware that its hard to wait.

I have to admit, it was sad to hear about the problem but refreshing that you admitted the fact that it was your own screw up that caused the issue. Too many times I see people whining and complaining about something like this and the only thing they can do it complain about how its not their fault. I applaud you on this. Its why you have not been flamed throughout the thread.

I also know that you have learned a valuable lesson and this will probably never happen to you again.

You must have luck on your side tongue.gif Just next time stay in the room if you're using a dodgy component, being able to flip the power off quickly can save you lots of money, I managed to save my brothers rig within 10 seconds of the CPU burning because a loose wire got wrapped around the stock Intel cooler's fan biggrin.gif
