The number of vehicles in the world is climbing at an ever-accelerating rate, leading the scion of an automotive dynasty to warn of crippling gridlock that can be averted only with cars that talk to each other and to the road.

Bill Ford Jr., the executive chairman of Ford Motor Company and great grandson of Henry Ford, cautioned against the threat of increased car ownership without a corresponding increase in automotive connectivity. Ford made his comments today during his keynote at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, reflecting a growing viewpoint among many auto executives and urbanists.

So kinda like minority report. Thats something i've always thougth about while in traffic, if only there wasn't that small lag between drivers that realize, "oh the guy in front is moving" then the person behind going "oh the guy in front is now moving" and so and so forth, what if all the cars waiting accelarate at the same speed at the same time, thus not hitting each other and overall moving traffic smoother and faster.

Driving in and outta Philly most traffic jams are cause by (yes of course a LOT of cars on the road) on and off ramps and the lane changes involved. Other times are slight curves in the road that cause some people to slow down. People start hitting the brakes and a traffic jam occurs as people just slow down more the further back you go as there is no space for a slowdown cushion with close vehicles.
