Volvo plug-in diesel hybrid races into Europe This would be a very neat option but for the price.

0-60 in 6.2 is nothing in terms of what electric motors are capable of... you do realize that the Tesla Roadster in question does that in 3.7-3.9 seconds, right?

Well, two of those things are already down (as fast as, as conveniently as). The only thing left is range and price, both of which are directly connected to the batteries, and due to the mobile electronics industry will improve over time without any involvement from EVs. thumb.gif

Does anyone else think it's funny that the only real arguments anyone can come up with against alternative fuel are the following?

1) It isn't loud. What will I ever do without noise pollution?

2) The fuel/electricity still has to come from somewhere! I don't care if that somewhere is a 95% more efficient source, its still not perfect, WAAAA!

3) Too slow for nascar! If it's not good enough for nascar, its not good enough for my 10 min drive to work on a city street with a 25mph speed limit and 6 traffic lights. What do you mean I have a honda civic? It's cool I riced it, its "fast" now!

4) It can't double as a full-time tow truck. How am I supposed to pick up my two kids from soccer practice without being able to lug a half ton trailer at highway speeds half across the nation? Hua? A Semi? No of course I don't drive a semi, why do you ask?

5) It costs money. No more money than the gasoline cars I'm comparing them too, but its still money! I flat out refuse to pay the same amount of money for a product that is in every way better. That would require change! I hate change!

As far as it concerns me, I'm waiting for an appealing e-car with at least 300km autonomy to reach the market. I'd break my ass working just to buy it.

I don't think any of those are real reasons that people who aren't joking around take on. The problem is availability of said alternative fuel, and if this alternative fuel is electricity, then it must have an equally convenient method of charging depleted batteries just as we do with filling up a tank of gas. That's the problem. If all we do is drive ~50 miles at a time and come back home or stay at work for a period of hours and have time to charge, that's fine. But as soon as you take that long period of time out of the equation and couple it with needing to "fill up" in a short period of time (like a few minutes, such as filling up a tank of gasoline), then that becomes a problem.

People will always love their nascar, and for the time being no amount of electric cars will change that.

And electricity production is absolutely not even close to a 95% efficient system. Not by a long shot.

So far I have only seen one electric car that I would buy, unfortunately I can't remember the name of it but it's basically a super car with small gas motor that is used to generate most of the electricity to give a range of 1000+ miles on 1 tank/charge, while at the same time has the same power output as a high-end Ferrari or Lamborghini.

Apart from that 1 car that I am thinking of (which is still a proper electric car, it just gets its power from a small gas engine rather than a power station) my argument for these alternative fuel cars is the range they get. 100 miles on one 7 hour charge? What happens if you live 51 miles away from where you work?
