Haha, my browser translated it, it appeared to be a repost of benchmarks done at Phoronix anyway. AMD FX-8150 Bulldozer On Ubuntu Linux.

I should also mention, I all ready have a dedicated linux box, it has a q8200 quad core, and 8gb ddr2, which seems fine for my linux tasks.

I'm entertaining the same MC deal though with a Sabertooth 990FX for $289. Can't beat that, or with the the GA-990FXA-UD3 for $259. The thing that might push me over the edge today is tomorrows release of Windows 8 Consumer Preview upon which BD will perform better.

I would get the sabertooth over the UD3 the sabertooth performs right at on par with a UD7 in almost everything and even manages to beat it out sometimes

also one thing to note the older amd memory standard is nonexistent now with bulldozer im running 2133 memory on my sabertooth and have run 2260 cl 9-11-10-28-1T at 1.65v with this kit

Do you think the GA-970A-UD3 is a bad option? Or do you just want the extra features of the 990FX chipset?

I don't plan on using SLI with CPU if I do get one, because that would be really silly to go from a 2500k to bulldozer for SLI. I would want to OC the FX-8120 though, so would I be better suited with one of the 990FX boards, ie, would I be able to achieve higher OCs? From the review I read on the GA-970A-UD3 they claimed it did well overclocking, although I can't seem to find the review now.

thats a awsome deal for a 8120 and a Sabertooth mobo flat out the sabertooth is a awsome board to over clock the VRM is alot more robust and has ceramic coating
post #19 of 33
Yeah I think you would get a better oc on the 990fx, plus you will be shocked how low the temps of bd are under water. I'm at 4.3 and my max load temp with blend and the other tests are only 40c max, it idles right around 25. Infact it acts more responsive but scores lower on tests because of cache thrashing.

I noticed when running wprime the last core takes a full second to process longer than the first core because they are literally screwing up the resources under load. But when you have 8 cores everything goes pretty fast and it oc's like a beast.

But it takes the bundle to being ~$290 after tax, rather than ~$200. Is the Sabertooth worth the extra $90, over the GA-970a-ud3?
