If these suggestions don't work, then where am I at? I do have an old Q6600 that I could toss in there as a last resort. But do I take it as a faulty H100? even tho my old cooler still made this error when i tried it?

by any chance is there an error code on the "lcd" on the motherboard (grey box thats i think is next to the cmos battery)? i beleive the EVGA 780i motherboard has an little lcd that can tell you if there are any hang ups etc.

I didnt read the whole thread, but if your other cooler had the same issue.. it might be your motherboard

Naw its not hanging or anything, its being forced to shut off because it thinks the processor is overheating. There is a little red led on the 780i near the CPU_fan header, and from what I have researched, that means CPU overheat. Which doesnt make sense because its only on for like 10-15 seconds.

I have made it all the way to the desktop once, because I have an SSD and it beat the clock before it shut down.

hmmm.. strange if theres only thermal paste in one corner as well thats also strange .. Only few things i can think of off the top my head related to cooling but by the sounds of it everything been done correctly though, but some reasons that i seen in the past:

- lack of thermal paste (amount should be around grain of rice)
- improper mounting (tighten the screws on the H series oposite of each other incrementally)
- the cooler might be to tight (giving improper readings from the temp sensor maybe)

Not sure if its a shadow, but please check out the area indicated. you may have some TIM or other debris lodged in there. Save the pic and zoom in... it doesnt seem uniform.

Again, it may be nothing....

Sounds like the H100 has no contact with the cpu. Pull it off an reset the cooler.
