extra memory boost?

Thread Starter
Hi, I've overclocked my pc time ago but recently upgraded rams to Kingston HyperX Genesis. I have not done much memory overclocking, just enough to keep cpu stable but now i want to overclock my ram. I dont know where to start to be honest.

Current OC:

CPU Ratio: 21.0
BCLK Freq: 199
PCIE Freq: 100
DRAM Freq: 1600 (roughly :/)

CPU Vol: 1.23125
QPI/DRAM Vol: 1.21875
DRAM Bus Vol: 1.64
IOH Vol: 1.12

CPU-Z Validation Link:

319

Now, I dont know even if I should be overclocking because system right now is stable and running smoothly. but reason why I wanted to overclock rams is because Im working on multiple servers and I could use with extra boost. any suggestions?

Well, im assuming your ram is rated at 1600mhz? Generally speaking you could tighten your timing down to 8-8-8-24 and stay at 1600mhz, or start moving towards 1700-1800mhz at 9-9-9-27.

Have you done much testing with higher BLCK?
If you have some headroom, back your CPU multiplier down to 20x, and start ramping up your BLCK clock. if you make it to 210, you will be back at 4.2ghz, and your memory will be at 1680mhz. Back the mult off to 19x, and the blck to 220, your memory will be at 1760mhz.

If i may offer a suggestion: If your CPU overclock is stable, dont fiddle with it. 4.18 is great for a 920. It sounds like your in a production environment that wouldn't deal with downtime well. The gains of going to 1760mhz @ 9-9-9-27 are minimal vs. 1600mhz 8-8-8-24, if at all. Try and see how low your can get your timings @ 1600mhz.

if you want to see a boost on SB platform you will need to OC both CPU and RAM (timings won't make as much of a difference as bandwidth )
I5 2500K@4.7

He is using a i7 920, not Sandy Bridge. But still, more frequency never hurt anyone!

right, first of all, RAMs are Kingston HyperX and not HyperX Genesis (I have no idea where genesis come from :/)

and timings are set to 9-9-9-27. BCLK Freq was normally set to 193 and system was running stable... I upped it to 199 but I realised it weren't stable. I know I should be able to go higher for both cpu and ram because cpu running at 35 degrees idle, (havent checked what the load temp is for long time)
rams timing are set to 9-9-9-27 as standard timing just to have them on manual option so I could stabilise CPU oc.

I am going to save my current oc profile and try lowering multiplier and rising blck freq and see what happens.

EDIT: RAM was rated at 1574 with multiplier at 21 and blck freq at 193.... now, i set the multiplier to 20 and blck to 200 and slowly going up. Now, RAM is rated at 1603.

Once you started getting close to 200blck you might need to up the QPI/uncore voltage alittle. maybe try 1.25 or 1.275 ( i saw you were at 1.23125.)

yeah, trying 201 at the moment. Wont I need to up CPU Voltage as I am gaining more from cpu too? if unstable, should I up qpi first?

ok... seems to have a stability issue at 20*203. I've upped my qpi and cpu voltage and no luck. My ioh v is set to 1.12, should I be upping that? and also, CPU PLL VCore is set to auto, I havent played with PLL before so I dont know If i should be touching it at all :/
