If you have signed up for the replacement plan then give them your activation code and they won't ask any questions. I would love to read about this upgrade from 2500K to 2600K for 30 bucks. Do you have a link to where you read about it?

AGRREED,, never tell them that the CPU won't go past 4.2 GHz because all your get in return is the operator saying " Your CPU was tested and guaranteed to run at 3.7 GHz,, So your CPU is fine" And then hung up on but not until they got your NAME/ Phone # so you cant call back and change your answer. Also if you can get the 2600k they are binned higher and are a more rounded CPU in speed and performance..thumb.gif

As for each chip not being the same and the no guarantee for overclocks, Yes... that's correct but even Intel knows that some K versions are just really bad and offers a replacement for your chip for 20 or 25 dollars for the 2500k and 2550k. I think its 30 bucks or something for the 2600k and 2700k. Keep in mind these "K" chips were supposed to be enthusiast chips and while there is no promise that each will hit 5.0 or higher I have rarely seen one that is not capable of passing 4.2Ghz. One that needs a full 1.4v to try to boot @ 4.4 is actually one of the worst I have seen out of about 13 sandybridge chips I have personally set up with an OC. Mine is @ 4.87 on 1.38v (50 passes of intel burntest says its pretty stable too.) There is a breakdown in your set up somewhere and if your POSITIVE you have followed a good OC guide and nothing is helping I would think its your MB first. If it turn out to be the chip, hit up intel's website for a replacement.

That is my 24/7 set up on air... it a little warm in the temps as its about 83F in my room today but my temps still only maxing in the mid 50's. They will drop when I start using the central air again.
If you decide it's the cpu read up on this article. http://www.techpowerup.com/158957/Intel-Introduces-CPU-Replacement-Plan-Targeting-Overclockers.html

thats where i got the upgrade from so i was asking if that was real but i will look into contacting intel

I never knew about that plan either, im going to talk intel as well for $25 i'll try to push my 2600k over 5.0 worry free.

So what your saying is for the OP to buy the plan then wait a couple of weeks then get a one time hassle free replacement? That could be a very good plan indeed sir..rsc.gif

Yeah the plan and prices quoted are to REPLACE your K series processor 1 time with no questions asked. There is no upgrade to this, its strictly just replace. I tend to do A LOT of suicide runs on my cpu's looking for max OC potential (not stable OC max) so I tend to pump an occasional 1.55v to 1.60v for Vcore trying to stabilize 5.7Ghz. nothing tends to work though. With the plan I really dont care if I fry the chip as I'll get a replacement with no worries (although the replacement is not certain to be as good of on OC'er as the original).

I don't think it matters where you got the cpu, I signed up for it and paid my 20 bucks for this 2550K and they just sent me an email with an activation code good for the duration of the 3yr warranty for a one time no questions asked replacement. you just go to their site register if you dont already have a log in and select the cpu you have. It will populate the price and pay via paypal. your now granted a 1 time replacement for any reason under the sun other than physical abuse. That means don't send them a chip you seated in your MB with a ball peen hammer. tongue.gif

Yeah I stumbled across it a few days back. Until then I knew nothing about at all. It works for me since I'm big in to suicide runs and stuff. Takes the nail biting out of going beyond 1.5v on the core. Still cant seem to get my cpu stable @ 5.6ghz even @ 1.6v but oh well. 5.4 stable enough for 10 passes of burn test is a pretty good max oc. I would never just run @ that 24/7 but I always like knowing what kind of chip I got my hands on. From what I read of others 5.4Ghz @ 1.51v is a pretty good chip. I'm running 24/7 @ 4.85ghz on 1.361v and temps can sometime touch 70c on hot days.

That replacement deal sounds good; almost makes me wanna push for 5ghz, but who knows what sort of chip you'd get in return.

OP
See if it boots at 4300 with a 42 multi and 102 bclk; might just do the trick, enable pll overvoltage, vrm: 350, current: 140 (or whatever equivalent on your board). It may just be a low multi chip.

For the Op someone on another thread just found a very informative thread with some information that may help you..Below is a bit from it..Like Members were saying, OC's are never a guarantee. So IMO you should stop before you do fry some harware that might not be covered.

Expectations regarding K series overclocking in general and on ASUS P67 motherboardsPrior to the recommendations on overclocking the K series, I am outlining our results to set expectations.
The results below are based on the range of the CPU turbo multiplier when overclocking.
Results are representative of 100 D2 CPUs that were binned and tested for stability under load; these results will most likely represent retail CPUs.
1. Approximately 50% of CPUs can go up to 4.4~4.5 GHz
2. Approximately 40% of CPUs can go up to 4.6~4.7 GHz
3. Approximately 10% of CPUs can go up to 4.8~5 GHz (50+ multipliers are about 2% of this group)
