3 monitors on a Radeon HD 5770. Problems

post #1 of 23

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum, and recently got a 3rd monitor for my birthday.

My computer has a Radeon HD 5770. I know that this isn't the best card to be running eyefinity on, but I'm not looking to do any real hardcore gaming.

my issue started out with me being ignorant to the fact that I needed to have one monitor hooked up to the displayport for Eyefinity. So I went out and bought a Displayport to DVI adapter; turns out that one was passive, so I took it back.

I now have an Accell B087B-005B displayport to DVI-D single link active adapter.

when I hook up my 3rd screen. (two already in the DVI ports) my computer gives me this error.

After a little research I found that I would need to update the firmware for the Displayport adapter. I went to the Accell site, found the update for my model and am now currently stuck looking at a screen like this.

I am ultimately frustrated at this point, I don't have any experience with eyefinity, but I am assuming it shouldn't take 5 days to get working.

any help would be much appreciated, and I would be happy to supply any info needed to resolve this issue. I just want to play with my bday present.

Change display port for another brand active display port?
Could be the easy way around it.

Firmware update was unecessary at all as your firmware is already 0x95. You did not experience flickering since you were not able to get it to work in the first place.

Need more details to help you.

1. Link to your 5770.

2. Catalyst version.

3. Link to your exact active adapter.

4. Links to your monitors.

5. How you hooked up each monitor and via what to the card.

Edit: You might have bricked the adapter with failed flash.

Your drivers did not install correctly.

Try this first;

Uninstall your Catalyst then clean it with (turn off UAC to install)  Atiman Uninstaller v.6.3.1

Download and install Official Catalyst WHQL 12.1 http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx

The Adapter --> MiniDP to DVI Single Link Active Adapter? Your card has DisplayPort instead of Mini DisplayPort.

More info  --> 502 - Bad Gateway

All your monitors have DVI. Why must use D-Sub to DVI adapter?

All your monitors have DVI. Why must use D-Sub to DVI adapter?

I have no idea whether or not his drivers installed correctly, or not, but I've never used any sort of driver cleaner. Not even when moving from AMD to Nvidia. You don't need to, and I believe it causes more problems than it "prevents." I've installed drivers many, many times, and the only times I had problems were when the drivers themselves were at fault (early 5xxx series AMD drivers) and I'm sure that "driver cleaning" wasn't my problem - they were only installed on a fresh OS. So there were no drivers to "clean."

OTOH, Good question: Why use D-sub to DVI adapters if your monitor has DVI already?!

Moving from AMD to Nvidia is no problem, but from Nvidia to AMD is where the problems begin. Most VGA driver issues are solved with Driver Sweeper in Safe Mode. The only Nvidia driver that does not have to be uninstalled is the PhysX driver. Sometimes this problem does not exist, but it only takes 2-3 minutes to do.
