Cooling for my case

Thread Starter
I believe that one of my problems with my high CPU heat is poor case cooling. Though I have 4 80mm fans, they are stock which came with my Lian case. I am wanting to replace the fans and I was wondering what would be the best product. Noise is not that much of an issue. Also, do I want the exact same fans for all 4 or do I need more/less powerful ones on input/output.

Silverstone makes excellent fans that have a good balance of CFM versus dBa.

Is it possible for you to use 120mm fans? The 120's are more efficient and quieter.

Hi pevelg,

You didn't state which Lian Li case you have. However, you did state you have 4 fans. I'll assume you have the stock 80mm ADDA fans. They supposedly flow about 35cfm each. I'm also guessing you have 2 fans in front and either 1 exhaust and 1 blowhole or 2 exhaust fans. Here's my choice if noise is no issue:
http://www.coolerguys.com/840556017042.html

It's the 80x80x38mm Vantec Tornado fan. 5700rpm 84cfm and a loud 55dBa
You don't have to buy the fans here. I just used the web site as an example.
You can not use the motherboard for power. The fans pull too much watts/amps! (9.1w/.76amps)

You might also consider a fan control option. I had one of these and it was really loud and 4 of them will get good air flow, but keep the neighbors up!

I hope this helped, :-)

My case is the:

LIAN LI PC-60USB B2 Silver Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

So in general, I want a fan with the highest cfm? I don't care if I need to hook up the fans to the motherboard, as long as I could do it through my powersupply. I don't want them to sound like jet engines though... I have two intake and the exhaust fans. intakes are together in front, one exhaust in back, and one exhaust on top, near powersupply. I think 120mm fans are too large for my case...

I am down to two fans:

SILVERSTONE FM82 80mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811999345

SILVERSTONE FN82 80mm Case Cooling Fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811999348

The FM82 gets much better airflow (Max 72.48 cfm) and has excellent reviews, but is loud and expensive. The FN82 is cheap but the air flow is only 36.89 cfm. How significant of a change would there be with the cheaper version? Or should I prehaps buy 2 or each? Please help.

The first fan is going to sound like a jet engine unless you plan on hooking up 3 seperate fan controllers for them. And the second one puts out poor CFM compared to what you have.

These have temp sensors built in...

Thank you Jamenta for the offering such "excellent" fans, but I think that is a little overkill. I have purchased 4 of the Silver Stone fans (FM82). As I wanted fan control, I cut the fan wires and spliced them to one controller. For some reason, the controller stopped working when I spliced in the 3rd fan. I ended up splicing the 2 input fans together to the controller. I then drilled a hole in the controller base and took the actual control unit from another base and put it in. I now have two knobs (the second controls exhaust) on the base which fits into a floppy bay. The knobs are aligned perfectly and it looks (and works) great. I was surprised by the noise (highest setting) the fans put out. BUT, one the lowest setting (very quite), the CPU was cooler than the old fans. My CPU temps dropped to 47c on full load (2 active prime tests) in a very warm room. In a cold room, they dropped to 39c. Again, thanks for the help everyone!
