Dual monitor differences...should i just give up?

Thread Starter
Ok so over the past 3 months ive tried out pretty much all the budget 21.5-23" monitors with the exception of Asus and maybe a couple other brands...but the one problem i always run into is the color difference between my current monitor (samsung EX2220) and the new monitor...now yes i understand all monitors are created differently and that no 2 are alike and that there will be differences that can usually be overcome by using a calibrator or using a custom profile....with the latter being very hard to come by with these budge monitors and the fomer a little too expensive to use on a monitor that costs about the same price

thing is...the 2nd monitor is just being used for web browsing and watchin a movie or live stream here and there while i play a game...i dont need anything fancy hence why i just havent spent money and gotten a U2312 or something similar

so the question is what should i do? should i just buy a monitor i like (aesthetically, features) and deal with the color difference or should i just totally give up and wait and spent like 500$ (which could be a
while) and get 2 identical monitors and then just get rid of the current one? or maybe do something else entirely

are there other people in this same boat? if so what have you done if anything?

thanks for the reply

yeah see normally im the same way...i need things to be consistent...but sadly i cant find another one of my monitors that i already own and i cant afford to go out there and buy new monitors that match...so im either stuck rockin a single monitor or 2 monitors one with not so great of colors...having 2 monitors is great for me cause im always doing multiple things while at the computer

bah...man i hate this

It is hard to find that monitor now. If only you lived in Ontario as someone is selling it for 100 dollars. Maybe you can give him a call and see if he would ship it to you.

hm that would be a nice buy as long as it really is in like new condition with no screwed up pixels or anything....the biggest problem i see which that would be the shipping...it cant be cheap to ship that monitor all the way down to south florida

If the color difference is really that annoying for you, I would suggest looking at some of the Dell IPS panels or something. I have 2 of the exact same Asus models, even bought at the same time, and the colors are still slightly different. So you might need to look at some real quality monitors, to be sure the colors are an exact match.

yeah i know...i think IPS is going to be my final attempt at solving this...but that isnt going to be for a bit due to lack of funds...need to sell some things

anyone need a computer case or a kidney? biggrin.gif

It depends on what YOU want.

I want 3 matching monitors but I can't spare the change for the other 2 yet (along with the matching video card). So I'm using my 120Hz 1080p 16:9 monitor for my main and my old 60Hz 16:10 monitor for my secondary.

Would I prefer matching? Yes. Would I prefer 2 mismatched over 1 single? Yes.

well i want 6 30" IPS monitors...but yeah cant really afford that biggrin.gif

but on a serious note...i totally understand...but honestly i just wanted a cheaper monitor that has good color reproduction and is a nice looking monitor that was 21.5-23"...but i cant have my cake and eat it too its either cheap and crappy colors or expensive and good colors

but i have to say since posting this thread earlier...ive been messing with the 2nd monitor i got today which is a Dell ST2220 and ive actually got the colors pretty close to my samsung...can still tell the difference but its a lot better than what it was now my only problem is its super bright cause if i turn down the brightness the colors go back to crap

i think ill just keep this little Dell and when i get some extra cash ill get myself a U2312 or something similar
