why are hdd's so expensive all of the sudden? - Page 2

I was shocked to see the prices recently as well. I don't regularly check prices on equipment unless I am looking to buy. So I haven't checked in nearly 6 months.

I bought my F3's for $60 shipped about 8 months ago. I was shocked to see they are now $160! That's a HUGE increase. I feel like I saved $300 on my raid setup now. smile.gif

offtopic.gif but then how do you know what's going on in the world biggrin.gif

No I get that. Personally I like to watch the news at least once a week. Usually NBC Nightly News. Using the DVR I can skip all that negative stuff thumb.gif

Because anything important gets shared by people on Facebook. I have some friends that love nothing more than to post headlines. Then I read whatever interests me. smile.gif

For example, I knew about the Tsunami in Japan long before it hit Hawaii thanks to Facebook.

But as for the HDD prices, they aren't really important to me. I'm not going to be HDD shopping for a long time. The prices will have likely stabilized again when or if I go to purchase another HDD. By the time you know about the prices they have already changed anyway. Nothing you can do about it.

I think I would want to increase my information besides what my friends put on facebook. Personally my freinds would try to politically spin most political news to what ever their opionons are mad.gif

Maybe I need new friends tongue.gif

Are you in Hawaii? My sister is stationed there

or is that just an example

Yeah this shortage sucks. Back in Oct, I was able to get 3x WD 3TB Green HDD's on sale at Microcenter for $120 each and they listed for around $199. Now today those same drives are anywhere from 250-300 bucks mad.gif

At this point, I wish I'd bought more *sigh*

I see you've decided to crawl out from under that rock you call a home. tongue.gif

Thai floods > Factories flooded > Supply drops > Prices Increase > Demand remains the same > Prices stay inflated

Sad time for the HDD. Great time for SSD.

For example, I knew about the Tsunami in Japan long before it hit Hawaii thanks to Facebook.

So evrything important gets reported on facebook yet you had no knowledge of HDD prices.

seems important to you now.

The tsunami's were reported almost instantly by the news as it happened if i remember correctly.

The news probably then fed to facebook.

Important headlines can easily be missed if relying on others to post what is important to them.

plus you have to trowel through baby pics and check in status' and the rest of it.
