Need some opinions, and advices about my config!

Hello guys!
To cut the long story, I'm a new member here, and I'm here to hear your advice about my problem.

The config:
Intel i5 750 , at the moment running it on stock performance as had no time to look for a decent cpu cooler
Gainward Geforce GTX 260 [896 MB GDDR3] [625/1348 MHz] [448bit]
Biostar T5XE CFX-SLI ready
2x 2GB DDR3 GEIL 1333 MHz [CL 9-9-9-24]

When I bought it, I've chosen directly parts, which are capable for some overclock (keeping it in balance with my founds ofc)

But I'm feeling a little bit angry, as I have bought the pc not more then a half year ago, and it already won't handle normally games like Alan Wake and some other new games.
The game won't run smoothly on high options, needed to set it to normal.
And even on normal, I'm getting some delay / problems depending on my nvidia control panel settings.
The first question is, how would you configure the nvidia control panel for performance/middle quality?
Here are my current settings:

282
113

What do you think about this video card? Is it reliable enough?Or should I sell it, and look for a bit better one? Or should I get one more, and go for the SLI?

Or if its decent enough, then should I try to overclock the cpu/memory?
Also I'm not sure is there any software for overclocking this card, but I've seen the link at the main page for something, so going to check it soon.

So, this was my problem. The main question is, what should I do with the pc? What should be the first step to improve its performance?

Waiting for your opinion guys!

Thanks

First, reset the NVIDIA control panel settings to default and see what happens when you just change the in game settings. Also if your familiar with the CP settings then you would like Nhancer. I don't know what version they are at with NVIDIA drivers yet though.

Second, I would do a minimal bump with the cpu , something you are comfortable with stock cooling,
Then do a little gpu o.c., go the the cards oem site and usually there is a program like you said , both together should gain you a few fps.

Bottom line is our gt200 gpu's are starting to show their age, I just switched to the 2500k from a PII and it seems my 280's have a little more leg room now, but not much. All I can say is Kepler !

Hi there!
Thanks for your advice!
I've cleaned out the rig nicely, and gave the cpu a little tweak. There is the integrated one step OC technology in the bios, and I've set it to "V8".
As I'm not familiar with the latest cpu OC techniques, as I was not following them, thought the best way is to let the mobo do the job.
Report about the current status:
CPU-Z Validation
Will leave the GPU OC for later.
I'll try to hunt for a good cpu cooler, and the rig still needs some extra ventilation, and then I'll go into the GPU tune as well, and will fire up the CPU a bit more.
