Steam is neat in that you can copy your entire Steam folder IE c/programs/Steam whatever. Then on another comp put it where ever and launch steam. It might act funny at first but it will do some semi install thingy then it will work. CAUTION this does not include any game saves that are kept in C/MyDocuments or AppData folder.

If you do not want to copy whole steam folder you can copy the games you want to backup, reinstall steam on new comp/OS install and put the game folders in their respected locations.

For Valve games this is often Steam/SteamApps/ACCOUNT NAME for other games IE COD this will be Steam/SteamApps/Common

if you have more questions about Steam, or if I confused you pm me

Oh ok, so it seems that I need to do it in XP...well that solves a lot.

I'm glad you solved it. After sleeping on it I was going to recommend trying EasyBCD from XP since you said you were trying it from W7. The guide explains how to do it from XP if you had W7 first, and vice-versa if you had XP installed first.

Sometimes it's the smallest little detail that can make a difference between something working and not working. But if you had followed the guide word for word from the very beginning, you wouldn't have ran into that obstacle since you would have been doing it from XP because you had W7 installed first. wink.gif
