Suggestions for how to spruce up Desk?

This is what I've got right now, and it feels pretty bland to me. I'm not much of an interior designer, so any tips on how to spruce my desk up would be most welcome.

I don't know.. It seems to need more color, and more lighting.. Maybe a lava lamp, or a clock.. what kind of things are you willing to add?

You need to add some more space, less is more. Free up your tower, the modem and NAS (is that?)

The desk seems a little small for your current rig. It's a little cramped and the tower doesn't quite fit on the desk. Maybe a new desk would benefit you well. How about the StudioDesk from Bluelounge. I think it would fit well style wise in that room (with the wood accents and all). It's also got a storage compartment to hide away all your cords.

You don't seem to have an issue with wires, but there is also the Cablebox from the same company, if you were to choose another desk you could place this on top to also tuck away wires.

Another thing that could suit you quite well is a headset stand to tidy up your headset instead of it just laying flat on your desk. Astro used to make one, but I am not sure if its currently being sold. It looked like this, but you can be creative, (people use banana stands and etc).

I know the benefits of multi monitor setups and the increased productivity, but in my opinion they look a bit tacky. If you want to rock a multi-mon setup try picking up a dual monitor stand, or some monitor arms from Ergotron. Or if you can deal with it, loose the second monitor (sell it and come into some cash).

And lastly, how about a Belkin conserve energy saving power strip. It also comes with a wireless remote to turn off all power to specific chosen devices when you shut down your PC, eliminating all lights and etc, when you leave your PC for the night.

Good ideas. I have a lava lamp next to my monitor. wink.gif

I'm thinkin' maybe move the tower to the floor (wood floors biggrin.gif), move the monitors a bit, and get some speakers up on the desk. Overall, you'll have more space and even if you don't use speakers that much they can be small and still aesthetically pleasing.

I love the look of that Studio Desk, but it's way out of my price range at the moment, but I'll definitely be getting a headset stand and that powerstrip probably. As for wires, behind my tower it's kinda messy, and the cables from my monitor hang down behind my desk. Not sure where I could move my monitor to right now, but you're right, it is pretty unsightly hanging on the side of my desk like that. Also, do you have any recommendations for backlighting? Currently I'm using a cheap desk lamp on the floor, and even though it provides nice backlight, it gets in the way and the cable just makes it look even more cluttered. Thanks for the awesome response, btw smile.gif.

I'm just worried about my cables being stretched/not being long enough if I move my tower to the floor, but I suppose some experimentation couldn't hurt.

If you mean ambient lighting for your room:
Natural light is the most ideal, but try to prevent any light on your monitor when you are using it, as it can cause glare or reflection which is not good for your eyes.

That doesn't mean have no lights in the room however: I tend to prefer in-ceiling lights, but they can be costly and are not always an option. If the room is very open and free of clutter,
a few (two) tower lights can look really nice against the walls. The following styles may give some inspiration: Line floor light , The Story floor light, Spiral floor light. I am not saying to go buy these lamps, but if you shop around your local stores you can find similar styles.

I can dig it. Experimenting is a great idea. I had to move a couple things to get my tower on the floor, and it all worked out for the best.

Is there a way you could take our that wooden shelf in the cabinet on the left side of your desk and wedge your pc in there, or something?

Maybe there is a way to have the tower set up behind the monitor on another stand or an add-on to desk? I'm just throwin' ideas out there to get the idea ball rolling.
