Thread Starter
I just set up my friends pc and everytime i get to the windows 7 splash screen it just shuts back down and restarts. I checked the logs in the bios and it said "Manageability Engine (ME) Channel A DIMM Missing (8). I checked and i had the ram at channel B so i switched it an same problem. Any help would be great, thxs. Also i am getting the weirdest temp reads for the cpu, it says its at 117c.

Could you provide some informations as to which components the build consists of?

Anyhow, could possibly be deffect stick(s). Tested to boot with only one stick installed, and then try them all one my one - and if so, does they all give the same error?

And yeah, 117C, thats hot so say it mildly. Could possibly me the mobo thats faulty. Anyhow, whether or not thats a correct reading is easy to determen if you feel gently with your fingers arround the CPU area and backplate possibly if you have easy access to it in the cabinet. Should feel soon enough if 117C is correct.

lol i would get 3rd degree burns lol, but the temps went down but its still pretty high, like at 65c%

The parts i got are

the motherboard is an Intel DG$1D:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121355

I got a 550w power supply,

4gb of ram:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122

Heatsink:
Xigmatek Gaia

harddrive:
Western Digital 1tb harddrive

As for the ram, i will check each one slot by slot but i see it in the bios as it detected it so i assume its not faulty but if im wrong can someone let me now.

Lol yeah, that temp would sure leave it's mark on the fingertips! tongue.gif

Anyhow, the RAM could be faulty even though the BIOS sees them as detected. A test with each stick in the first slot should give some results as to the memory being faulty or not. Could also me worth running memtest on them anyhow to see what that says about them.

It could also be that it is the MoBo which is faulty. Anyhow, as always - double check that all connections to whatever components are propperly seated so that you can rule out any loose power cables, sata cables and whatnot.

You could also try to clear the cmos and then boot up to see if that rules out the issue.

Well i made sure it wasnt the ram, i also put in my own ram and the same problem accrued. I dont think im getting the DIMM Error anymore because i researched it and that error happens when u dont have a stick of ram on Channel A 0, which now i do, but it restarting at Windows 7 splash screen(boot screen) is still accruing. Cant find a fix plz help.

Going to clear the cmos right now.

Hmm, if it seems that all components works properly, and you are unable to boot into Windows - I'd try a fresh install in this case as it's a new build (I understood you right there yeah?). Have you been able to successfully boot into Windows previously on this build? Or did this happen right after installing it, before you managed to run it properly for the first time?

Just to clear that last one there up with the harddrive, the harddrive with the Windows 7 installation, is an installation which were on the harddrive from previously in the other build? Is it this one you're having trouble booting up into? Or did I just misinterpreted your post?

Its a harddrive from a previous build, it had windows 7 already installed on it with a bunch of different programs and files, and all i did was put it into the new build(Its the one having trouble booting up). idk if this would be the problem.

I'm 99,9% sure that's the cause of your problems.

Transfering a harddrive from one build to a another with an Windows installation is near to impossible, unless the hardware in the new build are basically the exact same as in the previous one. Although it is possible, if one do some preparations for it, it will - if you are able to boot into Windows on the new build - provide you with alot of other complications down the line. So a fresh install is the safest bet either how.

Boot it up in the old build, safe all important data. Put it in the new build, and do a fresh installation of Windows, and it all should work nicely!
