Phobya Xtreme 200/400 Feedback

Thread Starter
Looking to hear peoples feedback on these radiators, I've seen them pop up more (mostly the 200) but have yet to really hear anyone review it. I'm looking at picking up the 400 but the only reviews I have seen have been in a different language, and while I was able to translate it, I fear that there may have been some loss in translation on some things.

The only downside I have really seen with them is the lack of higher quality 200mm fans. Aside from that though, it seems like the construction and materials are great and build quality is up to par with most rads on the market?!

Thanks guys.

Through the reading I've gone through, I have heard many people say that the 400mm radiator is essentially a standard 360 rad. There is little information but it is decent. For fans I would go with the Air Penetrator AP-181. It has between 1.1~2.45mmH2O of static pressure and between 80 ~ 130 CFM.

Really? May I ask where you found that?

The 200 should be similar to a run of the mill 360, the 400 should be (at least I would think) significantly better than a 360. I know it really comes down to the fans, but still, the surface area is massive.

Thanks for the fan link. thumb.gif

I cannot remember exactly but I was reading some thread somewhere and the owner was saying how it performed similarly to his 360. It probably does work around or better than it it though, but It's extremely hard to say. I just ordered my 400mm, I'll drop you a PM on how well it functions. I'm guessing many who have tried it didn't use fans with very high static pressure (for instance, mega-flows), so I'm thinking my push-pull setup will cool well above a 360. Especially with the AP-181's and the BitFenix Spectre Pros.

Here is a link to my haf x with a 200mm phobia mounted up front. The rad is great but is quite massive. even though it is a 200mm its much larger. It comes with a metal bracket to mount a 200mm fan to it. Was a tight squeeze in the front of the case. As for the performance i am running a 360mm and the 200mm and i cant say there was much of a difference in temps between the two. The 200mm made my temps higher then the 360 rad obviously due to the smaller surface area. They are optimized for low speed fans but like u said there isnt really a good quality 200mm fan that i have found. the Stock HAF X fans just plain suck if you ask me.

It is great rad, it is MUCH better than any 360mm..

bundymania says

Phobya Xtreme 400 - Performance = better than a 480 Quadrad

and note he used it with 180mm fans and shrouds, so that alters performance of the rad, limits it probably close to 2x180.

img_46136jzzk.jpg

from what people say, based on corsair 650D setups with single 1x200mm phobya, performance of that rad is similar to average 360mm. So you could say that 400mm = 2x 360.

frontal area chart shows similar results

I can tell you from personal experience that the 200 is a great rad. I threw a SilverStone AirPenetrator fan on it and it preforms beautifully.

That's definitely more what I was thinking in terms of performance.

When bundymania posted the photo of the rad on a few forums he stated, "Name 3 Cases, where it fits in the top w/o modding !" I stalked Bundymania over to overclockers.com.au and registered in an attempt to get more info about what cases the 400 fits.

... and the answer is?

you can find the answer in forumdeluxx.de, there were 10-12 postings from the users afterwards.

Using Chrome to translate German to English helped a lot but I was still unable to find which cases it fits. sad-smiley-002.gif

I assume an ATCS 840 would work well with this rad.

Dredknot,

The stock 200mm fan has very poor flow numbers.  If you combine it with the stock 230mm fan as a push pull as I have, the flow is really pretty good.  I can turn each one on/off independently so there is quite a difference.  The 200mm OEM black one alone feels like a light breeze...lol With both though,  I can actually feel the airflow all the way up to my pump.  For others who want to see my setup: http://www.overclock.net/t/1222289/haf-x-using-sr1-420-and-phobya-200mm-rad-mod-with-images-and-install-information/0_100
