GIGABYTE Z68 and 2500k OC help.

Thread Starter
Hi just joined overclock.net, been looking through these guides for a while now and i tried my first OC last night. Managed to get my 2500k to a nice stable 4.5Ghz @1.3811 VID according to CoreTemp. Ran Prime for about 3 hrs and no problems and nothing getting over 63C. so i shut down to find a lower Vcore to run at in the morning. But this morning when i booted it was running at 3.3GHz again even though the settings in BIOS are still the same. I double checked and every setting and number is the same. So now im confused because it would seem everytime i change anything in the BIOS it just runs at 3.3GHz according to CoreTemp and CPU-Z. I thought it might be just running at that speed idle but it doesnt change even at 100% load. Any further info needed can be supplied. Also sorry in advance if im just a noob.

well after about 2and a half hours of running Prime95 the computer froze. so i rebooted and ran IBT failed at the 9th test.. i still dont understand why when i set my vcore to 1.35V in BIOS it shows up on CPU-Z at 1.116V and goes up to 1.128V which is different than before, again with no changed settings.445

I hope you get it working right buy my experience with Gigabyte mobos and sandy bridge overclocking has not been great. I had a really hard time stabilizing my chip at 4.5 and I know a lot of other people have as well. If I could do it all over again I would get an asus. Inititally I figured I just got a bad 2500k but the more I mess iwth it the more I think my mobo is to blame.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Ill probably go with an ASUS next. And I mean I have it running now but it cant go longer than 4hrs in prime and IBT just destroys it in about 10mins. I just wish i could get the voltage to work. Its reading 1.044V right now so its no wonder its not stable.

im hating my gigabyte too frown.gif sexy board tho but annoying,
for help on LLC check this, i wrote it and learnt from a lot of experimenting, hopes it says you some time:

i'll try to make it easy for you to understand, i'll be using two terms which helped me understand it too
Vdroop - voltage drops under load
Vgain - voltage increases under load
now i'll go through all the choices available in the LLC section

Disabled - BOTH Vdroop and Vdrop are on full; vdrop is a motherboard system which lowers all voltages on the board
Level 1 - FULL Vdroop is on but Vdrop is turned off (think of this as being 100% of the Vdroop on)
Level 2 - 75% Vdroop
Level 3 - 50% Vdroop
Level 4 - 25% Vdroop
Level 5 - 0% Vdroop and 0% Vgain (voltage stays mopre or less constant, i say this because it does fluctuate a tiny bit)
Level 6 - 25% Vgain
Level 7 - 50% Vgain
and so on.....
so levels 1-4 Vdroop but the higher the number the less it droops
level 5 more or less constant
levels 6-11 Vgain, the higher the number the more it gains

i was recommended to set it so that under load the voltage should either stay constant or droop slightly, not gain as high volts and temps kill the cpu the quickest, but if your temps are cool and if the voltages are in the limits why not

just to let you know this is what i picked up from my experience, an annoying and long-lasting one hope it helps to solve your issue

i wrote this for someone else on their thread, should come in handy for you too, here the link to the thread for reference:
http://www.overclock.net/t/1094814/gigabyte-z68-ud4-vcore-madness#post_14627175

i OC'd my chip to 4.4 and it passed a 24hr custom blend, but crashed on me today when folding mad.gif

personally, i recommend 4 or 5 because at those levels its 'most constant', or a little vdroop

try this, 1.325V manual voltage, LLC Level 5

those are the voltages i used for 4.4GHz, under extreme load like full on use it stays at around 1.344V and sometime spikes too 1.356V, but when folding its at 1.356V al the time mainly

give that a shot, only change multiplier to 44, disable all power saver stuff and then just those voltages

oh and run memtest by booting from it on a disc to make sure ram isnt an issue thumb.gif
