No, in fact. I have tried reverting to the version 285 drivers and I am still getting this error. I have even tried going all the way back to the 265 version which came with the laptop when I bought it; these were ineffective as well.

I just flashed my BIOS with the MSI Version 3.0U for RAID sku. I'll see if this improves anything.

Just updating saying that I still have no idea what is causing the spiking. The BIOS flash didn't seem to accomplish anything in terms of progress.

Seems a driver issue since only BF3 is affected.
Try drivers from here.

Hey, if you have temps spiking 100c with prime95 in 2minutes try to clean out your laptop, thoroughly.

My friend had lagging with GTA4, it got fixed by cleaning the laptop.

Have you checked your CPU temps to see what's going on while gaming?
U can try to set ur cores to 4 open start then run msconfig.exe click on Boot tab then Advanced options then select number of processors then select 4 click OK then Apply and then reboot.

I have been keeping an eye on the temperatures and they don't go over 60C while playing the game.

I tried this and the result sort of fixed the problem and causes another problem. While using the reduced four core setup did help to reduce the spiking, I was still getting intermittent CPU jumps that lasted a fraction of a second but did cause a short frame rate drop.

The side effect problem of reducing to a four core setup for my laptop was that the performance just wasn't there (which I expected). Like I mentioned, my laptop does not have a properly functioning BIOS config as compared to others computers. I was trying for the longest time to disable hyperthreading, however when I called up MSI tech support they told me that this model does not offer a feature to disable HT without first flashing the BIOS with a "third-party" (as he called it on the phone) BIOS setup. I flashed my BIOS using the 3.0U for RAID sku and it hasn't seemed to help the issue.

When u set to 4 core that mean u disabled HT (Hyper Thread) and disabled HT don't lower performance in BF3 actually with disabled HT it perform even better ~2FPS try also to set realtime or high priority in task manager and with some programs u can set how many cores to use with that application also check if maybe PB using high usage of CPU PnkBstrB.exe PB is known to use 100% of CPU sometimes you can use this tutorial just set it to bf3.exe http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc/1402836-workaround-punkbuster-high-cpu-usage.html

Hm. Sounds like a CPU issue. From what im seeing, the CPU is somehow 'stalling', causing the GPU to wait on it for data (hence the drops in MSI Afterburner). The question is, what is causing this.

Could you try running the game in windowed mode, with task manager open? Set task manager to show processes with the HIGHEST CPU usage at the top. When the FPS drops, check if anything shows up. If it does - post the name. If it doesnt, post what the CPU-usage graph looks like (its under the performance tab).

The other question is there anything that seems to be tied to the drop? Explosions? Looking in a certain direction? Does it happen in SP? Ideally you should load up SP and just stand still for a good 10-15 minutes. If the FPS drops, we know its probably not the game (Nothing is changing, there SHOULDNT be a load change).
