Antec Three Hundred? Why all the hype?

Thread Starter
I have had an Antec Three Hundred running my backup pc for a while now, and it was infact my primary case in my last build... However, I am thoroughly unimpressed with it. Its heavy, large, ugly (they didnt even spray the inside) and the front fan's cables are usually too short. I find it perplexing why everyone reccomends this as a great case when other cases at the same price point clearly out match it - a few examples are the Sharkoon T9, Novatech Prowler, the Xigmatek Asgard Case, the Fractal 3000.... the list goes on. Hell, the CM Storm Scout isnt that much more expensive!
So yeah, why do you guys like it so much?

Hype? What hype?

There is hype behind this case? i didn't know. i just boughtit because it was there. and i thought cheap. I like the way it looks though. simplistic and unimposing. i just wish there were better wire management capabilites without having to mod it.

And on the right side there is a review with 4 1/2 flames tongue.gif

Overall, if you want a quality computer case with good airflow and build quality and don't care about a side window or anything, stop looking right now and get this one.

I agree that there is not much hype about it though. Usually when its talked about, its just mentioned in budget builds, along with every other case at its price point. At that price point, the look alone could make any case a winner depending on whos looking at it.

It isn't heavy, but it is sturdy. It was a fantastic case during its heyday, but it has since been supplanted by similarly priced or cheaper alternatives. I bought one for the nostalgia factor and moved out my superior Cooler Master 690 II Adv tongue.gif

I wouldn't say hype. No more hype than a CM 212 has. in which case i wouldn't say hype, but just price to features included and word of mouth. Also, with the the amount of people that own one (check out the member list in the official antec case owners thread) this case seems to have an appeal, if not now, maybe when it was first released. Personally, for 39.99, I couldn't find another case with equivalent features at the time.

So its the Hyper 212/AS5 of cases? That sounds about right. People just throw it into builds without thinking about it or any other product in the category.

You could say that, I mean i don't wanna sound like I'm defending a product, its just a product. You can call it reputation, that's the difference between hype and reputation, hype has no basis but marketing, meanwhile reputation has word of mouth from the actual consumers. So yeah, as you and I said, its like the AS5/Hyper 212 of budget cases. Not to say that people don't think about it, but theres a reason why people bought it, and why they recommend it. Has it lost a bit of its appeal since it came out? yeah kinda, but there are lot more uglier cases out there in its price range that better cases. Btw, +1 on the Fractal, I might get one too.

None of those cases existed when the Antec 300 was released.
The 300 is old, and its design shows.
