6850 crossfire temperature help!

Thread Starter
I just received 2x Sapphire HD 6850's and just got done testing them individually. Both of them checked out, so I popped them both in. After some fiddling around with them, I finally got them to activate in crossfire via CCC. I decided to see how they performed so I booted up Trixx and Furmark and let it go for about 10 minutes.

Furmark settings:
Stress level: High
AA: 2x
Res: 1920x1080

I set up a custom fan profile to fire up to 75% when temps reached 75C. After about 6 minutes or so, my top GPU was at a whopping 85C and the second one at 81C. That's really hot so I stopped the test right there. Airflow is not the issue. The ambient temp is about 74F in my room.

I have a CoolerMaster 430 Elite with all available fans going.
Front: 120mm intake and 80mm intake
Side: 120mm intake
Top: 120mm exhaust
Rear: H50 exhausting in push/pull config

Another odd thing I saw was that the Furmark test frames per second didn't increase with the activation of Xfire. It shoes both GPU's on the bottom though.

Specs:
i5-655k OC'd to 4.16ghz
Patriot Viper RAM 8GB @ 1600mhz 8-9-8-24
Corsair H50 liquid cooling
Sapphire 6850's in Xfire
OCQ Fatal1ty 550w PSU

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

im not too familiar with ATI cards but if they are anything like what I have now then those temps are fine. My cards in SLI even get hot... my top card gets up to 93c under a heavy load (without custom fan profile). If I am using a 1:1 fan profile then I will see about 80-85 depending on GPU usage.

thats normal, 80-90c in a crossfire set up is normal the top one always gets hotter then the bottom one. the 80c range is normal for ATI cards in general also. don't use furmark for GPU testing that puts out alot more heat then what you'll see in-game most of the time, use a game with MSI Afterburner OSD showing the tempetures. redface.gif

Do you think it would help my temps if I ripped those plastic shells off of the video cards?
That would expose the entire heat sink to the airflow of the case.

wouldn't do much difference, what your getting is rather normal tempetures for a crossfire system, just keep the cards fan clean and dust-free you'll be fine

if their reference design then the temps he's experiencing is normal, yours may not be reference i know the XFX one has a Twin fan if i remember correctly. the HIS has the Blower type reference? smile.gif also to he is using Furmark which increases heat alot more then what would be seen in games

sorry for double post!!! Did you disable ULPS in Regedit just curious cause before I did, my X-Fire setup was a little wacky at times too. Doing this will not fix your temperatures unfortunately but it might get you a few more frames during that bench.

The XFX i have is single fan but it does have a vapor chamber cooling so i guess that helps out. I am not sure what the HIS has going on, i guess it is just a bunch of awesomeness lol. *ADD: I use Kombustor which is derived from Fur mark and still have never seen 75 C.*
