Oh, hmm. Well, that is a disappointment. Anyway, thanks for the answer.

Once it is installed and running, you will notice that the start menu orb has been placed in its original location. You can click on the icon to bring up the start menu. A side-effect is that ViStart maps the Windows key to the opening of the start menu, so that the operating system won’t switch into Metro anymore when you press that key. Metro UI is however not completely turned off, and you may be able to get back in via Alt-Tab or the Charms menu.
The icon overlaps with the first pinned taskbar icon on the other hand which you may not like. Here is how this is resolved:
Create a new folder on the desktop or another location.
Right-click the Windows Taskbar and select Toolbars > New Toolbar from the context menu. Select the newly created folder. You will notice that the new toolbar is placed on the right end of the taskbar.
Right-click the taskbar again and select Lock The Taskbar. This unlocks the Windows Taskbar so that you can move the taskbar elements around.
Now drag the new toolbar to the very left of the screen so that starts before the original toolbar with the pinned taskbar items.
Right-click the taskbar again and uncheck Show Text and Show title in the context menu.
Now move the original toolbar with a double-click on the separator near the start menu orb.
I followed the bullet points. Then ran Vistart.

Thanks!

When I get the time maybe I will develop an application for re-implementing Windows 7 full functionality and removing Metro in Windows 8. Not sure of a public release, more over a licensed application (there's a few people here I wouldn't give it to in million years). Also depends on demand. smile.gif Might wait until Q4 when Windows 8 officially launches, since there are to be more changes to the OS between now and then.

In principle it is very simple for Microsoft to re-introduce the Windows 7 style start menu into the OS. I would not surprised if they are actually planning to do this, and have the option enabled/disabled based on platform by default with the option for the user to switch back and forth. Maybe the reason why they are forcing everyone to use Metro UI is because they really want to get Metro UI feedback from users and they know that if they allow the classic start menu to be used then everyone will immediately switch to that and not bother to comment on the Metro UI at all. This in fact would make perfect sense to me and I have a feeling that is exactly what they are doing.

I just really cannot see them pushing this as the main thing to all desktops, especially not business clients.

Have you used the Microsoft Support Forums to voice your problems?

Complaining on here and hoping that Windows 8 is better won't actually help. You need to make sure you voice your opinion in a professional manner on the support forums or else Microsoft will have no idea what people think if it.

I uninstalled it, then reinstalled it again. After a good four hours using it, it's been uninstalled again.

I don't like Metro on a desktop, especially the feeling of being trapped in apps. Closing them with just a mouse is annoying (when web browsing I don't like to use keyboard shortcuts because I'm mainly only on the mouse until I have to type something). The apps themselves feel cheap to use and not very fluid (try using the music app without getting annoyed). The metro ui isn't really keen on customization (it would be cool to add your own images to it). The ribbon interface is good and I wish they would have focused on making that the main change. Win8 itself is pretty speedy, so if MS allows Metro to be disabled, it would be a pretty great OS.

I can reuse the Windows 8 Product Key with the same ISO download on a different hard drive, right?
