[Neowin] Windows 8 Consumer Preview Download - Page 35

Finally got nvidia optimus to work. Here's what I did:

Before you begin, create a new system restore point. If anything goes wrong, boot from your Windows 8 installation device and restore it.

1) Downgrade the Intel display driver that is included in Windows 8 CE (and/or windows update) to the old windows 7 drivers from
your manufacturer's website, restart when prompted.

2)Install of nvidia 295.73 notebook drivers and restart again. I extracted the setup and manually removed the extras such as HD audio, 3d vision, physx and update but I'm pretty sure you don't need to do that.

3)Enjoy better battery life, less heat/noise and more performance when you need it. Verify that everything works by going to the nvidia and intel control panels and testing a few games.

(none of the above requires you to do anything with safe mode, device manager or driver sweeper)

I really kindda like this one. It's like looking on the lite version of Windows 7, snappier than it, with some cool features, gestures. I might use this as my main lappy OS for now.

It's really the "lite-ness" that impresses me. And plus the less than a year expiration kindda sold me out.

What I don't understand is why Microsoft is forcing windows 8 upon us in its present form. It would be so easy to give the end user a start button and an option to disable Metro and make everybody happy. Then it really would be a perfect OS for everybody, mobile devices and desktops. If Windows 8 stays like it is now, I will not buy it.
Makes me happy!

Click download, 3.3gb... Nope.jpg. Meh it looks pretty bad anyway. If I ever get the cash for a gaming computer it will have to be windows 7. (inb4 new direct x version not supported by w7). But srs it looks pretty terrible. I wonder how the uptake will be..

That's the same way it looks in Win7 with IE9.
