40mm openings on back plate

Thread Starter
Noob Question (This is the first system I have built during this century and I am brand new to most of this.)

OK, so I am about to embark on an M8 build (SmasherBasher is currently doing a custom powder coat on it ! thumbsupsmiley.png) and I am gathering components.

I am looking for suggestions regarding the three 40mm openings on the back place. The obvious thing to do is three small fans. However, I am wondering whether this is even worth it. The reviews I have read indicate that 40mm fans generally are loud and don't push much air.

Note that I will be running two 570s in SLI.

Are fans worth it -- is there anything else that can/should be done with these openings ?

Personally I wouldn't bother with 40mm fans, like you said, they don't move much air and/or are loud. You should be able to get enough air flow using the 120mm fan openings.

It was the perfect place for me to put my res. I realized the backplate is cheap enough to replace so I can drill screws in it if I ever changed my setup I can just put a new one there.
