Beatiful Linux... the return!

Thread Starter
Many seasoned veterans of the Linux/best sub forum here may recall my thread "Beautiful Linux." I failed at installing Arch due to the need of a working system by the next day (I had problems with GUI hang). I will attempt another install in 5 weeks when I have two weeks holidays, however I need your guys help in replicating this:

screenshot_tenner.png

From the source I know the client used:

screen (.screenrc)
irssi (website | theme)
zsh (website)
urxvt (website)
conky (website | .conkyrc | .timeconkyrc)
xclock

I have all (most of those) and am using Fluxbox just now. I have never used Conky and figured it would be a main component... so... where should I start guys?

Again, thanks for all the help.
Main Rig.

Ugh, xclock so ugly. Dump it and get a conky version if you must have a clock there. It would look so much better.
irssi is my favorite irc client <3
I'm not a fan of zsh, much prefer bash over it.
rxvt-unicode is the only term I use.

What else do you need? Most of the time you could just ask the guy for the configs and get most of it going.

http://tenr.de

The style to me looks like "Blankend1.3" from http://tenr.de/styles/?i=2

As for conky, check out conky pitstop, they have some nice configs. http://conky.pitstop.free.fr/wiki/index.php5?title=Gallery_2011_%283%29

irssi themes http://irssi.org/themes

You'll still need to know his .Xdefault or .Xresources to get his terminal color sheme.

And I was just going to post that info about the theme. You beat me to it! ph34r-smiley.gif

Also how did he get the irisi term like that at the bottom? Just remove the window decorations or did he do something a little bit more?

Gotta be a super ninja! ninja.gif

Anyways, gotta love the arch/#! community here's a list of terminal color themes with screens; https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=51818&p=1

Can probably find one similar to the screen or one that is better for you tongue.gif

~/.fluxbox/styles

Just throw the whole folder in. For example:

~/.fluxbox/styles/Backend1.3

I told you fluxbox is the best. it definitely is. smile.gif

Check the (exhaustive) man pages at http://fluxbox.org/help/ . Get familiar with the contents of ~/.fluxbox ... the keys file is the best - use it. You'll have to do a bit of work to get it where you want it, but if you borrow someone else's config you like as a base, it won't be too much. And as far as looks go, there are lots of themes out there, find one that you like and fork it so you can make a few tweaks to it.

Really it does just about everything one would want out of a window manager - just when you think it's missing a feature, it's in there somewhere. However it can't do any of that overhyped compviz stuff, for some that is a deal breaker, for some it's GOOD rolleyes.gif
