Llano doesn't really have that capability. Maybe with Trinity, but you're not going to see extensive heterogeneous computing until a few years from now.

I think this is more about business. A corporation not always must take a step to make their product better or sell better but as long as increasing income even if it is using competitor product then why not? since in the end we're talking about money.

The goal is not converting business, the goal is growing the business. The opportunity is getting the fabric technology married to AMD Opteron processors and giving customers a really dense, power efficient platform for scale out computing. There is a huge opportunity for integrating that fabric into a wide range of platforms and really blowing the market wide open for this type of solution. SeaMicro has great products, and AMD has the OEM relationships that help take this to the next level.

Llano does not have ECC. We have already said that in the future we will offer APUs to the server market but you need 2 things: a.) ECC and other "server" features integrated into the APUs and b.) a market. While there are a few people doing experiments on APUs for server, the real value comes out in 2013+ when you have the HSA system architecture. That is when APUs start to get exciting.

My blog has a lot of the info. The transaction won't close for a few more weeks, so technically there is still a waiting period on roadmap changes. I can talk about why we did this and how it fits into the overall strategy, but I am not going to get into the terms of the deal or those types of details.

Actually its about a great technology that really needs a bigger stage to take it to the next level. As a startup SeaMicro was in with a handful of other companies trying to compete against the big boys in the server world. While a better technology matters, in the server space, people look for longevity, future opportunity and a proven partner. By becoming part of AMD they go from competing with the big guys to possibly becoming part of the solution. Cooperation is a far better growth strategy for your technology than competition when you are a start up. This takes their technology to the next level.

So, JF-AMD when purchasing this company for its fabric technology is there an expectation to compete against Tilera?

Amd was an r&d but for some reason ibm doesnt help amd anymore and god knows it isnt because they cant but probably because amd silly budget limit on cutting edge techno.i bet ibm will help amd if they come back to earth and stop cutting budget on their hardcore stuff like end game gpu and end game cpu.i agree with ibm you cant make eng fame component with 1 cent budget .so amd moving away from eng game component is a good mo
