Will an add-on Sata controller disable the onboard controller?

Will an Add-on SATA controller disable the onboard controller for my Crosshair IV Formula? I have an SSD and a standard 7200 HDD and my system refuses to run AHCI with both running on the same controller. I would like to know if it is possible to run my SSD off the motherboards SATA controller and the HDD off a Add-on controller, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thumb.gif

If possible will this allow me to obtain AHCI mode on both devices thus enhancing my setup?

No it will not disable your onboard controller. You can run teh SSD on teh mobo controller and the HDD on teh add on one.
