Deleted Files Not Disappearing from View Until Folder is Refreshed?

Hey all,

Just noticed a weird problem since last night on my sig rig. I deleted some files from My Documents, and I hit the confirm to delete them, but they are still there. When i refresh the folder, then they are removed from view. This is on the windows boot drive, which is installed on my SSD, not the spinpoint.

I tried the same thing with the spinpoint, and the files disappear immediately after I delete them...

Is this a windows issue, or should I start getting worried about my SSD? Anyone ever hear of this happening?

This happens to me occassionally on my Spinpoint and my 2x WD in RAID0. No idea what causes it. Something else it will do is if I create a New Folder nothing will appear until I refresh.

They are haunted ghost files. wink.gif

I can theorize why this is happening but nothing more.

I have a SSD and do not have this problem. But I also do as few writes as possible and routinely do a secure erase to keep the drive in optimum condition.

Also, all of my documents and such are stored on a different drive to further help reduce writes to my SSD. That fact alone may be why I don't have that problem.

My OS drive is my SSD and ALL other files are stored on HDDs...so this doesn't really explain anything...lol

So you routinely secure erase your SSD and still have the problem?

Edit:

As mentioned above, flash blocks and cells need to be erased before new bytes can be written to them. As a result, newly purchased devices (with all flash blocks pre-erased) can perform notably better at purchase time than after considerable use.

So in theory, couldn't these files potentially be showing because there is still an "after image" of them on the SSD? A secure erase will remove them if that is the case.

It is normal, I have the something, I erase things from my desktop i sometimes still see them till i refresh. Blame MS lol. It has nothing to do with your SSD.
