BC2 soundloop crash

Rig below at stock speeds / volts

with 6850 even at stock BC2 sound loop crashes about every half hour. I swapped back to my 5770 and no problem so far.
So is my PSU not up to the task or is the gfx card not happy?

I have ruled out: Overclock, sound card, fresh install, probably some other stuff. I'm trying to get hold of a 5750 to try frankenfire as that should pull more power than the 6850 so I can rule out PSU.

Thoughts welcome. I know soundloop points at either an overclock or a realtek onboard sound issue. I suppose I could try throwing 0.15v over stock at the card.

Are you using MSI Afterburner? If so, download the latest beta and go into Settings.

Make sure "Enable Low Level Hardware Access Interface" is checked.

This problem mainly affects 6xxx users who also use MSI Afterburner. Either that or make sure Punkbuster is fully updated.

I know that using a non genuine version of Windows along with certain cracks can lead to the sound loop and lock-up. I'm not sure if it violates the TOS to name which cracks so I won't but give a quick search on google and you should find what I'm talking about smile.gif

About 8 months ago I had the exact same issue, game would freeze and sound would loop. Turned out to be a motherboard problem. I replaced it and the same hardware has been running strong since. Do you have anyway of ruling out your motherboard? I thought it was PSU, then thought it was RAM, I did a few fresh install's used a different GPU. It was down to the CPU and mobo and at the time BD was around the corner so I got a new mobo(990FXA-UD3) and all was fine.

Sound loop related crashes seem to plague the entire BF series. Just to clarify, Battlefield 2, not Battlefield Bad Company 2?
I had the same issue with BFBC2, haven't experienced it in BF3 but I actually haven't played much of the game. I only have about 6 hours in BF3.
But I have 40ish hours in BFBC2 and I had the problem sometimes. It seems to be related to a sound driver for onboard sound cards. A lot of people just bought dedicated sound cards but a lot of people fixed it by uninstalling the driver and either updating it or using some kind of other driver. I don't play much BFBC2 anymore so I didn't use any of those fixes but from what I read they have varying degrees of success.
Unfortunately, it's a very weird problem and doesn't have one simple solution.

Sweet. Rep'd, this is top of my list of stuff to try, thanks. Yes I use msi afternburner, trixx just annoyed me. Also bonus lols for your avatar again. PB causes me SO many issues before, I'm not actually getting kicked from BC2 atm so this is way down the list.

Yes my version of Windows is genuine! How dare you Sir! But good point, I have heard that DICE doesn't play nice with pirates. Another bonus lol at your name.

I do not. I would hope that the previous owner would have mentioned any issues, or jsut plain not sold it. Works fine with the old 5770 so I don't see how it can be the mobo? my VRM adn NB heatsinks are loose (probably as I keep knockign them installing fans in silly places) so I am goign to re-apply some decent TIM and replace the plastic tat with proper screws at some point.

I believe I have ruled this out by removing the soundcard, it could still be drivers but as per mobo, it works with a different gfx card.

I'm glad no one else has mentioned PSU! biggrin.gif

rep where it is due, thanks for the useful suggestions.

I'm still not sure how the board failed. Maybe somthing with the CPU socket? Never could figure it out. after about a week or so the crash's got more frequent, untill they would happen on start up, or at any second. Changing it fixed it...still fighting with ASUS to RMA the stuipid board to this day.
