Hi i guys i partition my sons computer hardrive so he can put on the new Windows 8 Consumer preview. That went ok. The problem is how do i get into that partition to put the new Windows 8 OS.
His Motherboard is the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula. I hit F2 and F12 to boot of the CD but it does not work. This is one of my builds that i did for him. I did go into the boot menu to boot off it but it still boots the windows 7.

Did you make the disc correctly? You have to download the iso and burn it to a disc, but that disc has to be bootable. If you select the disc from boot menu and the bios doesn't find something it can boot, it'll just continue on it's merry way with boot order and boot Windows 7.

This is what I used for the developer preview, it should work for the consumer preview as well. You might need other software to mount the iso as a disk so you can copy and paste the files. I don't remember if the utility does that part for you.

Sometimes the bios will have options to enable/disable CD and USB booting. Double check the system settings and make sure that's enabled.

Once you're actually booting to the disc this should help you. It goes through the installation process and the different options. The most important thing looks like you have to select custom install instead of upgrade to specify where to install it. Otherwise it'll upgrade Windows 7.

As a precaution I'd backup your windows 7 install if you can. You never know..and this is beta software. thumb.gif

Yea i did the ISO disc. Both the 32 bit version and the 64 bit for him. On my computer as its booting up you press F12 and that gets you in. Then it will take you to do a fresh install. Thats what i did this morning on my 32 bit. No sweat. But i'm trying to do the same with his computer. I will have to go in there and set his to boot off the disc i made. On this motherboard you have to press the Delete several times to get in. I guess i will have to go into Boot Sequence..so it will boot off the CD
