q6600 OC with H80 - Page 2

the H80 will do much better with a Ivy cpu, 22nm, and it will run much cooler.

My main reason for getting the H80 was for my planned Ivy upgrades but overclocking a q6600 is a nice test of the H80's abilities. I don't think it would be able to handle 3.8 though.

confusion complete..
ill repeat it and hope i do not cause misunderstanding biggrin.gif

tjmax value = you can change this in realtemp settings or the hwmonitor.ini
there were different versions of q6600. some had i think it was 80 or 95 and the other was 90.

if you change this value it will show a different "actual temp" .. so this value is rising upwards like it should because the cpu is gettin hotter at load^^

distance to tjmax goes downwards and should not go under 25-20°C with ibt/linx..

i hope i did not cunfuse no one anymore tongue.gif

edit:
found it !

I think it still bottlenecks my crossfire 6950's a little bit, which is why I'm upgrading to Ivy in the next couple months.

Also smex I understand what your saying, I saw that post before I just never really understood it. If I set my tjmax to 90 then everything reads 10 degrees cooler, is that accurate? Or are you just saying distance to tjmax is more a accurate reading of temperature?

In any case it seems to be working fine so I'm happy either way. At least until my computer stops working.

ah yes.. damn samll picture. for q6600 was only one value 90.. i have a e6600 and there are two values so i messed this up.

for eg you run linx and realtemp shows at one of the cores "distance to tjmax" 20°C.. now you use the real value from the thread in the realtemp settings ( 90°C )
it will show you a actual temperature of 70°C.. if you change the value from 90 to 80 for eg.. it will show you an actual temp of 60°C instead of the 70°C

20+70 = 90 @ 90

20+60=80 @ 80 <--- fake value, fake temp.. same distance to tjmax

Hwmonitor pro and take a SS
yea but dont forget to check ( if it exists there) the ini in the folder if it has 90 as tjmax otherwise the thread bigins again rolleyes.gif

I had a chip that took 1.37V to do 3.6GHz, it made it to 4.2 for benching. It hits 65 under load in prime95 and 75 in LinX on a tuniq tower 120 as far as I remember so it's about 5C hotter than yours and the tuniq is pretty decent.
I used to use 85C as my limit in IBT or LinX as nothing else will get that hot so I'd say you've still got some room, most Q6600s need a lot of voltage to get from 3.6 to 3.8 though so 3.6GHz is a nice point to stop at.
Those are very good temperatures and the Q6600s are tanks so that'd be fine for years. thumb.gif
Edit: And BF3 on a Q6600 is pretty nice. smile.gif
You'd never believe they were released over five years ago. biggrin.gif

Yeah but in what game?
If it's BF3, mine plays it fine but I guess mine is at 3.9.
If it's bottlenecking on my setup it's not doing it at less than 60FPS as I don't notice it.
I haven't played much BF3 with this chip though so maybe it would be a problem on Caspian Border or another large map.

My Q6600 is on an H5O at 3.6@1.5V and doesn't break 60C at full load:

440

That's push/pull as exhaust in an Antec 900 case. I don't always trust software temps though.

Well I hope Ivy is a lot cooler than this q6600. The H80 max fan speed is loud, but then again max fans on my true were pretty loud too.
