I only said they sound like it, which they do. If they have an IPS panel then perhaps they are butt hurt that IPS doesn't have 120Hz or perhaps they feel they must defend their more expensive IPS purchase?
I doubt they have ever owned a 120Hz monitor and therefore have no clue what they are talking about.
It would be like me trying to say that an IPS panel does not have superior image quality as many state (yet others say they don't). I have never owned one and therefore would be trolling if I said they didn't have superior image quality.
Higher than 60Hz CRT monitors were around long before LCD monitors came out. When LCD came out they took a step backwards in both Hertz and input lag/response times. They are only now starting to get back up to par. People who argue against higher hertz have very likely never owned one. "Claiming" to have owned one means little. I can claim to own an IPS and a 120Hz, that doesn't mean I do.
Assuming an IPS does have superior image quality and knowing that 120Hz > 60Hz, I would still take 120Hz over a 60Hz IPS. But that is a personal preference.
