Nope, the 08 box will function as the DHCP server (after you install the role and set it up of course), which I recommend because I highly doubt you can set various DHCP scope options with a home router - which you might need smile.gif

As for redirecting data to the server, that's done quite easily with folder redirection smile.gif

Doesn't sound like the OP is ready to get into DHCP scopes yet. There's a whole bunch of stuff he could do. but let's go with baby steps first.

OP, just set your W7 clients DNS address to the address of the server.

Active Directory is typicaly used when the number of hosts exceed 10. May I ask just what is attracting you to active directory? Instead of making a domain how about a simple peer-to-peer network. The good part of active directory is that it centralized the configuration of permissions and authentication.What do you have going on here?
