Or it means you have a bad Memory slot lachen.gif

it happens.

OP, you say you have a faulty slot, have you tried switching your ram to the other 3 slots?
Don't buy a new mobo until you're sure its not the chip.

blah... I didn't know that. My apologies on that one. I won't be swapping to it for a while though since I blew all my upgrade budget for the year on 2 new builds :sad face:

http://i4memory.com/f54/asus-x58-6-12gb-memory-overclocking-detecting-less-memory-than-installed-19200/

This is what fixed my 4GB problem, I just had to up my QPI/DRAM accordingly.

Though I did go from i7 920@4GHz/x58/6gb to 2500K@4.6GHz/z68/8gb. I think this is more of a side grade than an upgrade, you could wait for the new ivy bridge when that comes out but the little things that I did get is... lower temps, higher clocks, 2gb more ram, sata3, usb3, pcie3 lol and I can upgrade to ivy bridge if I want to in the future. Don't really notice any difference in gaming or stream/casting. I do miss having 4 more threads tongue.gif but right now I'm not heavily encoding or doing anything that will need it. Also another reason why I side graded was because I sold my old setup at a good price and I only had to pay maybe a difference of $50. Another alternative if you can't fix the problem is you could RMA the board, get a new one or sell the new one etc... (not sure if its still under warranty though).

Did you check for bent pins in the socket?

The socket looked a bit weird tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if things were bent etc, I had a play with the ones which seemed bent to make them "straight" - only to power my pc to now only have 2gb biggrin.gif.

Anyway, all is ordered, now... question is, what to do with the 5850 powercolor? Crossfire it with something or buy a single card solution?

Advice appreciated.

(I already got a SSD, just need to install, I know my HDD was probably a slight bottleneck too some ways..)

It probably hasn't, but, if it is clear socket damage - I don't think that is covered after nearly 2 years of use tongue.gif (as I can't prove I didn't damage it, which truthfully, maybe I did on initial installatiion, who knows...)

What did you end up buying?

As for the 5850, either keep it, or buy a newer card, like the 7950. I wouldn't bother getting another for crossfire, as they're already fairly old and didn't scale too well to begin with.
Personally, I'd keep it until Kepler is released, and then decide if you want to upgrade.

Man.....

Get a magnifying glass and a sewing needle. Then take some time to bend the pins back. I had to do it on my buddy's board. Just takes some time. Would've saved you money. You must have bent pins that deal with the memory controller......
