Ideal configuration for: 2 64gb Crucial m4s, 1 750gb caviar black, 1 TB seagate 7200

I've never used RAID, and was curious as to whether this would be unwise given the threat of data loss. The 7200 is ripped from an external drive, so I could easily put it back on the power supply and use it as an external backup. Are the benefits to RAID significant, or as a consumer/office user is it more trouble than it's worth?

Bump! About to install...at this point, I'm just going to install windows on the first m4, programs on the second m4, and user files/media on the Caviar black, then remove the 1tb drive and use it for backup storage.

^I'd say this is the ideal configuration yessir.gif

I wouldn't worry about data loss, but there's no reason to stripe hard drives for most desktop use as it offers no tangible benefits. If you're a video editor, RAID 0 might be worth looking at, but other than that, just do what you have planned for normal use and gaming.

This what I would do, but if you really wanted to.
If you were going to raid, I would probably only RAID using RAID 0, as opposed to a mirror RAID...

I'd just stripe the two SSDs. It's going to be a pain to manage two small storage drives, and you'll constantly be moving things off your OS drive, that gets old quick.

That's how I set up my sig rig since my first SSDs were two 60GB units.

Crap...now I'm waffling. Curse you all! Thanks, though.

So, just to be clear, if I *don't* stripe the two SSDs, any inconvenience will be in the form of having to remember where to arrange certain things, etc, rather than in the form of performance issues...correct?

Edit: to be clear, I'll be pausing during install in audit mode to install my user folders and program data folders to the 750 GB caviar black.
