Sound Issue

Alright, here is the issue.

I have a 2.1 channel speaker system. recently, i purchased a 5.1ch headset.

After plugging the headset into the 5 ports on the back of the mobo, windows recognized the device as a 5.1ch device and all was merry.

I then plugged the 2.1ch speaker system into the front speaker port (i.e. mobo surface audio connector).

this worked fine. later, though, i unplugged the 5.1ch headset from the back and plugged in the 2.1ch system.

when i went to use the computer, the audio was not working. upon investigating, i found this:
348

as you can see, it seems to think there was something plugged into the optical connector, which there is not, nor was there ever. interestingly, if i remove the 2.1ch system, it still reads as the optical port being filled.

as an experiment, i removed the 2.1ch system from the rear of the mobo and plugged it into the front connector, where it was recognized just fine.
348

i don't know whether this is software or hardware related, but i'd like to make sure its not software first. i know basically nothing about navigating the audio portion of win7 so i wouldn't even know where to start with this....

anyone got any ideas?

Honestly, in my experience...Realtek's ALC889 is horrible. Their drivers seems to get all glitchy over nothing. Re-download the DRIVERS from Realtek and post back the results.

this fixed it thumb.gif

it took a little bit of finagling but basically reinstalling the drivers solved the issue.
