Windows 8 Review, by GTech - Page 7

There is an easy way to add the start menu back btw; it's called vistart it also remaps the windows key so it works like normal. Otherwise I don't really have many complaints with it besides the lack of my motherboard tools. I even get a higher overclock on stock volts for my GTX 460 768mb. It seems to give higher PPD for folding as well for both CPU and GPU. My Desktop's PPD increased from between 20-28k to 30-36k PPD using SMP on CPU and 800/1600/1800 OC for GFX cardt.

Another thing I'll mention is that using Win 8 on my Laptop I'm able to do things while folding on gpu and cpu on the same WU's that make it impossible for me to do anything on my pretty fresh (like a month) old install of Windows 7 Pro on my laptop. In Win 7 I have to turn off the gpu whenever I want to web browse, read or anything else (can't even use notepad without it beat make it impossible to ding stuttery)

If anyone knows about Windows 8 beta drivers for ASUS motherboards please let me know here

I know Windows 8 offers Kinect support, and I'm pertty sure the XBox will be able to like connect to your Windows 8 Computer (maybe to use the net?), though I'm thinking no on the XBox games...

The interesting thing is though, in the menu they list XBox games, that makes me wonder too..

No xbox games will be played through 8.. its so you can "control" your xbox.. download games etc to you xbox using your pc/tablet.

the thing ive noticed is the memory/cpu instability. after a running a number of things for a while, then starting BF3 it about kills performance till i reboot or close everything i can.

i think thats the idea... to have Windows appear the same across all device.... kinda like iOS

side note... i got a new gfx card.. and it came with Dirt3 (Download) - i could NOT get it to run on Win8. Finally solved it. its missing xlive.dll which is part of games for windows. Just dl/install that and it works. Im assuming any games for windows game will require this.

Well, not really like iOS, because I don't see Apple pushing it onto desktops, at least not yet. Apple understands that different devices have different interface needs.

The idea of one interface for all devices doesn't work well until desktops are out of the picture altogether. I imagine this is part of MS's plan, but it seems to be too early for that and they're facing a backlash.
