ACC just has a side effect of unlocking at certain settings. It is actually to provide external synchronization of the cores and the IMC AFAIK.

Tried putting ACC at different + ranges and nothing changed. While at 3.2ghz I was able to get into windows this time but as soon as I turn on prime 95 I get a bsod. So the only thing I could thing up was to slowly decrease the fsb until I get a stable clock. Not sure why but 3.120ghz is stable when 3.250 is not but I'm sure I won't be able to notice much difference.

i say drop your ram down to 1333mhz, reference clock to 250, make sure ht link is 2000mhz still, the cpu-nb is still 2500, and make sure you set the voltages where schmuckley and karath pointed or just a little lower.
i seem to remember maybe reading most ocz ram aint worth crap for overclocking. if you drop it under stock it might point you in a stable direction. also, what voltage is your ram ? do you know the exact model of it ? some ocz ram is good but unfortunately it isnt so with all their models.

*edit8 also, timings on ram of 8-8-8-20 is pretty tight on the 20t-ras. probably work a lot better at 24. it could also have added to problems

OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3RPR1600LV4GK

That is from my order history on newegg. Its deactivated now but the stock timing are 7-7-7-24 and stock voltage is 1.65, so you are right about the tras being at 20. Im not sure why its at 20 since I have that on auto. I changed my timing back to 7-7-7 since they were not the cause of my problems.

Im going to leave my ram at 1600 atm and try the tras at 24 and see what happens. If I still get a bsod ill bring it down to 1333 and try that.
Also, will I notice a decrease in performance lowering it to 1333 from 1600?

Running my memory at 1333 and setting the t-ras to 24 had no effect, still crashed. I set my fsb to 247, that is still over 3.2 and prime 95 didn't cause a bsod but all but one core would get errors and stop.
I put the ram back to 1600 and my cpu at 3.1 and prime 95 runs fine. I guess that is just the frequency my cpu likes. at 3.1 everything actually runs really smooth. Before I would start prime 95 while at 3.2 it didn't seem as quick to boot.

Like others have said overclocking is a lot of trial and error. I had a Athlon II x4 that I could not get over 3.0.. You may just be unlucky with your current chip.
It was 2 years ago that I ocd but I remember lowering my ram down a bunch (it still ran at 2.100mhz, stock was 1333. I was surprised because they were a pair of OCZ golds.) and putting the volts up a little bit here and there. I apologize that i cant remember the exact things I did.. But I did OC it with my stock cooler and it ran fine.

Just an anecdote from my experience with my new to me Ph2 x2 550.

Unlocking is a no-go, overclocks best with core and CPU_NB voltages equal. Voltage above 1.45v actually hinder overclocks (possible issue with low end board), ~3700/2600 (core/nb) seems to be about the max clocks its stable at. It can boot at 4ghz, but fails to load windows above 3.8 (tried up to 1.65v) All using advice Ive given in this thread.

Its possible that you may just have a lackluster chip.

Yea it was just a cpu a friend gave me. I had a athlon ii x4 that I replaced with it since this one had L3 cache and the athlon doesn't. I could get the athlon to 3.4/3.5 I think but figured any phenom would out perform a athlon. I actually was able to get 6MBytes total from the phenom, mobo unlocked the extra 2MBytes. I put the athlon in my gf's computer so I won't swap it back, but is the athlon ii x6 640 faster than my phenom ii x4 810?

Probably not by much, Id say they are about even for most tasks with heavy multithreading being better on phenom.

So, thinking about upgrading something on my PC. Just trying to get whatever will give me the most performance upgrade for the money.

Upgrading my phenom ii x4 810 for http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103996 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103935&Tpk=AMD%20Phenom%20II%20X4%20980%20Black%20Edition

Upgrading my OCZ 1600 7-7-7 memory for http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460

Or upgrading my XFX 5770 for http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150521

The only other question I have is if my mobo will even support the FX processor, I'm sure the phenom ii is better anyway. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131402
