My First Build - Advice Needed - Page 2

Expensive case..that's a personal preference I s'pose.What case am I using?..ermm..It's (was) a Coolemaster Elite 330
2600K may not be necessary ..2500K has plenty of power.
psu..ack..Let me give you some choices there:(PSU is #1 component in any system)
1st option.pretty good wattage..there's better..but not so bad:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817121085

2nd option: not as much wattage..better efficiency+reliability:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371031
3rd option (may be same as 1st):thinking.gif: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153136
4th option..my fav so far..where was this when I? oh yeah..I went to CompUSA redface.gif http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151100
Now you're talkin'! :thumb.gif: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817121090

OK...getting kind of expensive..
The RAM..Get the Samsung RAM!..This one!
http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=samsung+ram&hl=en&prmd=imvns&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1289&bih=843&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=1693932428983254321&sa=X&ei=IBBPT9q1BaL-sQKH5cCyDg&ved=0CIkCEPMCMAU

While the gene-z is a fantastic motherboard..you really could get the same performance out of your cpu
by picking something around the $130 mark..Also..motherboard may get changed out..

Any money saved can be applied to a better GPU! biggrin.gif 6870 2gb is $200

Ok..here's my Philosophy:1)Get a big enough case to cram all your parts into
2)PSU is the most important component..don't skimp here..It carries over from build to build
3)RAM also carries over
Your other parts look fine! :thumb.gif:
oh..just so you know..7970 prices and current gpu prices in general should go down within a couple months

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I updated my list of components again. I looked at some other threads on Overclock and it seems that there won't be a big difference between the i7 2500k and 2600k, so I've decided to save the $100 as I'll mostly be gaming.

Other than that I still have to decide on the motherboard, SSD, and GPU.

Okay. I was thinking the M4 would be worth it too, not too much more expensive. Also I just found out the Gene-Z is even cheaper at Fry's than it is on Newegg, so I'm definitely going to stick with it.

Now my only problem is still the GPU. There seem to be around five 5 good ones and I can't decide which is best.

If anyone has more suggestions on which to get that'd be great. And please, after listing multiple ones please say which you think is best.

Thanks!
