thinking of doing a main component upgrade on the cheap. at or around 200$ would an FX-4100 be a good route? or should i just try and find an older Phenom or something like that? I dont think I have the budget for anything on the Intel side, so just AMD gear.

I highly doubt it. EVGA stopped making any AMD boards (unless they started again) at the 590 series of chips, and this is an am2/am2+ board at most. I will be buying a Mobo, Memory (ddr3?) and a cpu. price point at 200, 250 max. anything else cuts into my keyboard funding. Hopefully i can sell off what I have still from my old system and a few other peices (ddr2 sticks, hdd's, a 5000BE tat i lapped, and dont use) to hopefully put enough scratch together to buy myself a nice headset. But priorities for me are CPU/MOBO/ddr3 -> Mechanical -> headset -> possibly new mouse.

so tldr; I will need a new mobo, a new cpu, and 4-8gb of ddr3 (I know i can get kingston ddr3 at 1600 from frys 8gb will be 55 bucks if i buy it by thursday and they have any left in stock, otehrwise there were a fwe other options i saw around that price point.

actually you can build an i3 2100 rig that will eat your present dual core alive. and it wouldnt cost anymore than an amd build, possibly a few pennies cheaper thumb.gif

*edit* what do you have close by besides the fry's ? arent afraid to mail-order are ya ?

if amd i will suggest you
960T 115$
M5A97 95$
Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz 2x4GB 40$
Total 250$
if you can invest another 17$ then you would get a lot better RAM and motherboard
SAMSUNG 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 47$
GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3 105$
reason to recommend these two items
motherboard its a 8+2 phase motherboard a lot better then the 4+1,4+2,6+2 Phase motherboard
RAM it overclocks to 2200mhz+ REVIEW
and intel you can overclok at all so
i3 2100 115$
H61 motherboard 50$
RAM 8GB 48$
if you have microcenter then try
i3 2100 + MsI H61 120$

the i3 performs better for sure but yet i would go for the 960T a true quad which has great overclocking capabilities (~4Ghz) thumb.gif
Hope that helped thumb.gif

*EDIT*
try this the best deal around
FX 8120 + GA-970A-UD3 190$ biggrin.gif

I like this one the most, even with the extra money imma have to spend for memory, this looks like the "best bang for my buck". Is this system going to play well with my 260 or should I invest in a new card? I only play SWTOR at the moment, and with school and 2 kids taking up the majority of my time, i dont see picking up anything new any time soon, plus I can always upgrade down the line if this is going to to be workable for the time being.
